No. RV Javelinas enter Portales, New Mexico for final regular season series

The first of the final four regular-season games are slated to begin Friday at 5 p.m. CT

KINGSVILLE, Texas- The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team is making their way into Portales, New Mexico, as they take on the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds for the final series of the Lone Star Conferences regular season. The matchup begins on Friday, with first pitch at the Greyhound Baseball Field scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.

The No. RV Javelinas (28-14, 26-14 LSC) visit the Greyhounds (15-29, 14-28 LSC), sitting fourth in the LSC, boasting a .650-win percentage as the regular season nears its conclusion. ENMU, meanwhile, is 11th and is looking to right the ship after dropping their last nine contests. The top eight teams will advance to the Lone Star Conference tournament, while the four with the best regular-season marks earn the right to host the opening round.

As the Hogs aim to cement themselves as a host school, they carry a slew of momentum after besting then fifth-ranked West Texas A&M three times out of four, A mixture between solid pitching and strong hitting allowed the Javelinas to take the series, with senior Kolby Lunsford (Helotes, Texas) setting the tone early.

Lunsford earned his sixth win of the season in the opener against WT, allowing just one run to one of the top hitting teams in the nation. He struck out four in five innings of work before handing the ball off to sophomore Hunter Kloesel (Shiner, Texas), who tossed two innings until his team's bats secured a 13-1 run-rule victory. Sophomores Nick Wolff and Jake Chapman (Boerne, Texas) each logged multiple home runs as the team tied the school record for long balls in a game with six.

Game one was just the beginning for Wolff, who maintained a .634 average throughout the series and went yard a third time in the second game of the series. The Hogs earned their second game of the weekend in a 10-7 slugfest. Wolff wasn't the only Javelina to homer in the contest as senior Hayden Fails (Sweeny, Texas) smashed one over the wall in left field, providing a cushion for sophomore Kobe Jaramillo (Bishop, Texas), who tossed five innings and fanned seven in the win.

The series finale saw senior Logan Garza (Round Rock, Texas) toss his longest outing of the season, going 7.2 and punching out nine en route to a 4-2 victory. Sophomore Colton Taylor (Amherstburg, Ontario, Canada) came in and picked up his eighth save of the season, the most in the league and the 12rh best in the nation. In the finale, Wolff crossed the plate twice, wrapping up a six-run weekend that slowed him to earn LSC Hitter of the Week honors for the third time this season. Additionally, Wolff has now reached base safely in the last 17 contests he's appeared in.

The Greyhounds, however, couldn't manage to get things back on track last week, falling to Texas A&M International four times. Despite their recent run of form, the Greyhounds boast one of the league's top hitters in the form of Spencer Roach. He maintains a .397 average that's seventh in the LSC and a 1.008 OPS while batting eight doubles and four home runs on the year. Roach enters this weekend on a 10-game hitting streak, which ties Camden Mathews for the team's lead. Additionally, Cooper Hamilton tops the conference in triples with eight.

ENMU's pitching staff holds an 8.58 ERA and has had five different starters on the season. No Greyhound has as many wins as Roger Bravo, who holds a 5-5 record in 10 starts and 13 appearances. Bravo sits third in complete games, after going the distance four times and has struck out 60. The only ENMU student-athlete who fanned more than Bravo is Damien Acosta, who's amassed 65 for the sixth-most in the league, despite tossing only 54.2 innings.

Following the season opener Friday, the teams will meet again for a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m., before the finale Sunday at 2 p.m.
