RICHARDSON, Texas- Sophomore
Nick Wolff (Klein, Texas) once again received recognition from the conference office as he was named Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week for the third time this season, in a release by the league office on Monday.
This marks back-to-back weeks with acknowledgment as he's maintained an average over .600 in consecutive series. This time around, he helped his team take three out of four games from No. 5 West Texas A&M with a .636 batting average thanks to a 7-for-11 performance at the plate, featuring three home runs, six RBIs, and six runs scored. Additionally, he slugged 1.455 and walked twice for an on-base percentage of .750, which added to an OPS of 2.205.
In the series opener, Wolff helped the team tie the school record for homers in a game, adding two of the team's six. The 13-1 run-rule victory saw the Javelina catcher log his second multi-home run game in as many weeks and was a perfect 3-for-3, logging three of the team's RBIs. He collected a trio of RBIs in the second game of the series, courtesy of another long ball and a sharply hit single. Wolff also scored a pair of runs in the series finale, bringing his total to six on the weekend.
Defensively, Wolff was solid behind the plate catching all but one inning for the Pack and leading the team in putouts with 30 and boasting a perfect fielding percentage.
This marks the first time an LSC student-athlete has won three weekly awards since Kyle Kaufman of West Texas A&M did so in 2019. Wolff also represents the first Javelina to accomplish the feat since Denver Diefenbach was named Pitcher of the Week three times in 2014.
This Friday, Wolff leads the Javelinas into Portales, New Mexico, for the final four-game series of the regular season. The opener is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT, at Greyhound Baseball Field.
