SAN ANGELO, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team earned an eight-inning run-rule victory over the #10 Angelo State Rams, with sophomore
Nick Wolff (Klien, Texas) logging four RBIs and a home run in an 18-7 Lone Star Conference victory at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium.
The Javelinas (19-11, 17-11LSC) complied 18 runs against the Rams (23-7, 21-7 LSC), earning a road-series split against the 10th ranked team in the nation. Everybody in the Blue and Gold lineup either scored a run or crossed the plate while Wolff led the way going 2-4 and batting four runs in on a double and a home run.
Sophomores
Garrett Thompson (New Braunfels, Texas) and
Mathew Castro (Corpus Christi, Texas) each drove in three, while classmates
Shelby Becker (Giddings, Texas) and
Jake Chapman (Boerne, Texas) logged two RBIs apiece.
Redshirt Senior
Brandon Symmank (Cypress, Texas) started the game on the slab for the Javelinas, and went 3.1 innings, in which he allowed one earned run and struck out two.
The Hogs wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, putting up six runs in the top of the first in an inning that began with a single by senior
Kyler Bumstead (Kountze, Texas). Becker worked a walk before a double by senior
Giancarlo Servin (Edinburg, Texas) plated Bumstead. Becker later came across on a wild pitch, before Servin charged home on an RBI groundout from Chapman. Castro dropped a single into right field that scored Wolff prior to sophomore
Ivan Duarte (Juarez, Mexico) crossing the plate on a fielders choice ground ball by redshirt senior
Hayden Fails (Sweeny, Texas). Thompson capped off the inning with an RBI single, putting the Javelinas up 6-0.
In the third, Thompson put another run on the scoreboard, smashing a solo shot into left-center, providing a seven-run Blue and Gold lead.
ASU got three back in the third, before sophomore
Colton Taylor (Amherstburg, Ontario, Canada) entered with the bases loaded and one out. Taylor quickly induced a ground ball to the shortstop, that went 6-4-3 to end the threat. Taylor stuck around for three total innings earning the win with one strikeout.
The Pack added five to their total in the fifth, as back-to-back singles by Bumstead and Becker put the team up by five. Wolff then plated the pair with a double down the right field line, before a Chapman single allowed Wolff to dent home plate. The Rams pushed three more across in the bottom of the inning, resulting in a 12-6 score line.
Becker led off the seventh with a walk, while Becker doubled allowing him to score. Shortly after, Castro snagged two RBIs on a single into right-center, and Fails was plunked, loading up the bases for Thompson, who earned an RBI on a walk, putting the Javelinas up 10. The Rams avoided getting run-ruled in the seventh, as they trimmed their deficit to nine, with a runner scoring on a wild pitch.
In the eighth, Wolff provided the final two runs of the ballgame scoring Servin on a home run into left-center for an 11 run edge. Senior
Logan Garza (Round Rock, Texas) got three outs in the bottom of the inning, securing a run-rule victory over the Rams.
The Javelinas now invite Texas A&M international to Nolan Ryan Field or a four-game Lone Star Conference series that begins Friday, at 6 p.m.
