JASON GONZALES POSTGAME
"We came out and competed," said coach
Jason Gonzales. "Pitching staffs got to build off of each other, great ones do, and
Robbie Spencer went out there, and set the tone, and everybody followed up after that. They where challenging hitters, attacking the strike zone and filled it up and when you do that you got on opportunity to be successful."
The Javelinas (10-4, 8-4 LSC) knocked in eight runs on 11 hits, while the Dustdevils (7-11, 7-9 LSC) were held scoreless by nine different Javelina pitchers, with the bullpen striking out 14 TAMIU batters.
In the third, the Javelinas pushed across the first run of the ballgame, with sophomore
Shelby Becker (Giddings, Texas) smashing a single into left field, scoring redshirt sophomore
Ivan Duarte (Juarez, Mexico).
Duarte crossed the plate again in the fifth on a Servin single before doubling in the sixth, earning a pair of RB)s and delivering a 4-0 Javelina lead.
Following a single by Becker freshman
Kyle Perales (Hidalgo, Texas) pinch-hit in the seventh, launching a home run on the first pitch he saw extending the Javelina edge to six.
In the eighth, the Dustdevils walked in a pair of runs, cementing a 8-0 victory for the Blue and Gold.
The Javelinas now turn their attention to a four-game conference series with Oklahoma Christian, beginning Friday at 6 p.m. at Nolan Ryan Field.
