Javelinas fall to Aggies in game three

The Javelinas are now 2-1, following a 3-1 defeat by the Cameron Aggies

KINGSVILLE, Texas- After winning the first two of a four-game series, the Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team could not seal the win Sunday, dropping a 3-1 pitchers' duel to the Cameron Aggies in Lone Star Conference action at Nolan Ryan Field.

COACH JASON GONZALES POSTGAME

"We failed to make adjustments when we needed to," said coach Jason Gonzales. "We didn't get the big hit when we needed it, and our pitchers threw well enough to win. Three runs for our hitters should always be enough to win a ballgame, but it wasn't our day today, and we've got an opportunity to try and come back tomorrow and win a series."

Despite earning the loss, redshirt senior Brandon Symmank (Cypress, Texas) looked solid in his season debut tossing eight strikeouts in four innings and allowing just one hit. The righty was cruising through three before a bloop and a blast in the top of the fourth put the Aggies on the scoreboard.

Cameron pushed another run across in the fifth, before sophomore Jake Chapman (Boerne, Texas) recorded TAMUK's first hit in the bottom half of the frame.

The Pack claimed its lone run in the bottom of the sixth as a sacrificed fly by sophomore Matthew Castro (Corpus Christi, Texas), brought home redshirt senior Hayden Fails (Sweeny, Texas), who led the inning off by smacking a triple into center field.

A bright spot on the day was the Blue and Gold bullpen, which put together a strong performance, as sophomore Cole Payne (Cuero, Texas) forced three batters to whiff in an inning of work, before junior Matthew Sesler (Harlingen, Texas) matched Payne's strikeout total for the next 2.1, allowing one hit. Picking up right where Sesler left off, junior Luis Martinez (Grulla, Texas) saw two batters go down swinging in the final 1.2 innings of the ballgame.

TAMUK has another shot at winning the series, with the finale slated for Monday, at Nolan Ryan Field, with first pitch scheduled at 1 p.m.
