Aggies earn split with Javelinas

Cameron’s early offense too much for TAMUK to overcome

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Cameron Aggies put up seven runs in the first two innings and thwarted the attempts at a comeback from the Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team to take Monday's series finale, 8-1, in Lone Star Conference action at Nolan Ryan Field in Kingsville, Texas.

Both teams close out the season's first week with 2-2 records.

CU's first inning rally started with a one-out walk and a single and, after the Javs recorded the inning's second out, Jordan Harrison belted an 0-1 pitch over the right field fence to plate the first runs of the day. A hit by pitch followed and when the next batter dropped a double into the left field corner, Nik Sanchez came all the way around from first with the frame's fourth run.

The Aggies struck for three more runs in the second, when a walk and a hit batter put two runners on with one out. Julian Macias then sent a slow roller to the right side, but two Javelina errors on the play allowed both runners and Macias to cross the plate, boosting the visitors' lead to 7-0.

Despite the early deficit, the Javelinas gave themselves chances to cut into CU's lead by putting runners in scoring position in the third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings. Unfortunately for the Javs, senior Giancarlo Servin's (Edinburg, Texas) RBI double in the fourth was the only run they could muster. A bases-loaded, one-out chance in the fourth ended when freshman Ramsey Amador (Edinburg, Texas) lined into a double play and the Hogs also left the bases loaded when junior Steven Bonuz (Port Lavaca, Texas) struck out to end the fifth.

The Javelinas' next challenge will be a four-game series on the road against UT Permian Basin, with game one schedule for Friday at 2 p.m.
