Javelinas wrap up home slate, hosting Mustangs and Pioneers

TAMUK takes on Midwestern State in a 5:30 p.m., Play4Kay Breast Cancer Awareness contest on Thursday at 5:30 p.m., before inviting Texas Woman’s to the SPEC for a Senior Day matchup, Saturday at 2 p.m.

THE MATCHUP    
• The Javelinas (16-7, 9-3 LSC) return to the SPEC this week, hosting the Midwestern State Mustangs and the Texas Woman's Pioneers
 • Thursday, Feb 16, TAMUK invites the Mustangs to Kingsville for a 5:30 p.m. Play4Kay Breast Cancer Awareness Game
• The Pioneers then visit the Ville on Senior day with tipoff set for Saturday, at 2:00 p.m.
 • The Javelinas sit at 9-3 in the LSC, a mark that places them fourth behind West Texas, Texas Woman's, and A&M-Commerce with four games left in the 2022 campaign, including matchups against WT and TWU
 •Midwestern State (12-10, 6-6 LSC) are .500 in league play and are fighting for a spot in the postseason, entering the weekend ranked ninth.
 • MSU-Texas split last week, falling to TWU 84-64, before earning a decisive victory over Western New Mexico 70-57
 • Morgan Lenahan leads the Mustangs in scoring, averaging 14.7 ppg, while Frances King and Hannah Reynolds also average double-digit scoring figures
 • Texas Woman's (16-6, 9-2 LSC) have been dominant in LSC play this season, with their record placing them second in the conference.
 • The Pioneers won both of their games last week, beating MSU-Texas 84-64, before a 53-35 thrashing of WNMU
 • Ashley Ingram has been dominant on both ends of the floor for TWU; she averages 12.8ppg and 6.5rpg while blocking 18 shots and snatching 24 steals
 • Ingram has been named LSC Offensive Player of the Week twice this season, last earning the accolade after averaging 18.0 points across games against Cameron and West Texas A&M
 
 Last Time Out
• The Javelinas split a pair of LSC contests losing to Angelo State before besting UTPB
 • TAMUK fell to ASU 72-58 in San Angelo, Texas, despite Georgia Ohiaeri scoring 16 points
 • The Javs then completed a 13-point fourth-quarter comeback against UTPB with a career-high 17 points by Ohiaeri, leading the Blue and Gold to a 71-69 win.
 • The win put Coach Michael Madrid's career total to 98, two away from the century milestone

Conference Contenders
• The Javelinas started 8-3 in Lone Star Conference Play and are currently fourth in the standings
• The Blue and Golds league mark matches the start from the 2000-01 season
•, That team that went 12-3 in the LSC before winning the NCAA South Central Regional Championship and earning a berth in the NCAA DII Elite Eight.
• TAMUK has won one regular season title and one LSC tournament title, both, in the 1999-2000 season,

Hometown Heroes    
• The Javelinas remain undefeated at home through 11 contests, including an upset of #1 ranked Lubbock Christian
•The last time TAMUK started this hot in the SPEC, they began the 2009-10 season 12-0 at home, before closing the season out 18-10 overall
 
Double-Double           
• Anastacia  Mickens recorded 17 points and 11 rebounds in a conference win over TAMIU for the programs first double-double of the season
•Mickens  represents the first Javelina to accomplish this feat since Bri-Anna Soliz scored 10 points and snagged 11 rebounds in a 58-39 loss to Angelo State on February 20, 2020.
• Devon Williams logged TAMUK's second double-double of the season logging
 
Chasing History         
• The Javelinas  6-0 start to conference play last happened in the 2000-01 season when TAMUK picked up wins in the first six LSC contests and finished the year 27-7 with an 11-3 league record
•The 2000-01 team also won the NCAA South Central Region tournament to make its first appearance in the NCAA Elite Eight
 
Down Goes Frazier    
• TAMUK  toppled the top-ranked team in the nation to wrap up the 2021 calendar year with a 59-42 win over No. 1/1 Lubbock Christian on December 31
• It is the first win over the No. 1-ranked team in program history and first win over the defending NCAA Division II National Champions
• The Javelinas held the Lady Chaps to their lowest scoring output since 2010, the lowest shooting percentage of the year and worst margin of defeat since 2016
 
Defense Wins Accolades      
• Anastacia Mickens became the second weekly defensive honoree of the season after helping the Javs hold a potent Dustdevils offense to 47.5 points across a pair of matches
• Devon Williams was named LSC Defensive Player of the Week following TAMUK's upset win over Lubbock Christian to wrap up the 2021 calendar year
• She became the first Javelina to receive either accolade from the league office since Anastacia Mickens was named Defensive Player of the Week on December 14, 2020
 
Third Time's The Charm       
• The Javelinas started 3-0 in league play following the win over Western New Mexico
• The last time TAMUK started 3-0 in the Lone Star Conference was the 2006-07 season
• The Javelinas have only started 3-0 in league play six times in program history
• The best start to the conference schedule came in the 1999-00 season when the Blue and Gold started 7-0 en route to a 15-1 finish and the program's only LSC regular season and tournament championship
 
Texas Two-Step        
• Anastacia Mickens put up 24 points, a new career-high, in a 66-56 win at home against Western Oregon on November 24
• It is the most points by a Javelina in a game since Cloe Lane put up 25 in a 66-65 loss to Texas Woman's on February 7, 2019
• Only two Javelinas surpassed 20 points in a game in the 2020-21 season

Blanked          
• The Javelinas held Chadron State to zero points in the third quarter en route to a 58-51 win on November 12 to open the season
• It is the first time ever the Javelinas held their opponents to zero points in a quarter since the NCAA shifted to the quarter format ahead of the 2015-16 season
• Since head coach Michael Madrid took over, the Javelinas have held their opponents to fewer than 10 points in a quarter 39 times
