Conference play opens as Javelinas visit Rambelles, Falcons

The Javelinas are 3-1 entering Lone Star Conference competition

KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team is set to begin Lone Star Conference play as they visit San Angelo, Texas for a matchup with Angelo State on Thursday, Dec. 1, with a 5:30 p.m. tipoff set at Stephens arena ahead of a 1 p.m. start against UT Permian Basin in the Falcon Dome in Odessa, Texas.

The Javelinas (3-1, 0-0 LSC) picked up a dominant 63-41 victory over Adams State last time out, with the sophomore duo of Mia Rivers and Jayde Tschritter each posting 15 points. Rivers sunk shots at a 71.4% clip and dished out six assists. She also blocked a shot, swiped two steals, and collected nine rebounds against the Grizzlies.

Tschritter meanwhile, sunk five three-pointers and helped the Javelinas stifle an Adams State offense that entered the week as the top shooting team in the nation, hitting 54.7% of their shots and averaging 95..2 PPG. The Grizzlies could only shoot 25% from the field against the Javs and were held to 41 points with Tschritter blocking a shot and swiping three steals. Junior Goergia Ohieri and newcomer Shelby Ray also delivered strong perfomrances with Ohiaeri hauling in 10 boards and Ray scoring nine with eight rebounds.

The Rambelles (4-1, 0-0 LSC) have had a strong start to the campaign, and carry momentum into the matchup after knocking off No. 5 Eckerd and picking up a pair of LSC Player of the week awards. Tayjanna McGhee Pleasant was issued Offensive Player of the Week honors, after scoring 21 points and collecting eight rebounds against the Tritons, while Payton Brown took the defensive accolade thanks to a trio of steals.

Brown, McGhee Pleasant, Sawyer Lloyd and Madeline Stephens all average double-digit points-per-game, with Stephens leading the squad in rebounds at 7.6 per-game and Browns in steals with 11.

The Falcons (3-3, 0-0 LSC) enter the week after dropping road contests against MSU-Denver, and Colorado Christian but are undefeated in the Falcon Dome, last taking down Sul Ross State 86-53.

UTPB has been led by Andrea Mancha in scoring thus far, as the junior guard averages 14.8 PPG and is coming off a 28 point performance against CCU. Nobody on the Falcons has collected as many rebounds as Alexus Quaadman who pulls down eight per-game, and Avalon Muniez paces the team with 28 assists.
