SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
The Wildcats are coming off a loss of their own after falling on the road last week to West Texas A&M, 35-16.
CWU is led offensively by running back Tre'Jon Henderson who leads the LSC in total touchdowns with 11 on the season so far, while averaging 9.4 points per game.
Henderson is one of only two players this season to receive LSC offensive POTW honors twice, the other being TAMUK's
Christian Anderson.
The starting quarterback is expected to be Quincy Glasper however, Glasper was pulled last Saturday for backup JJ Lemming after early offensive miscues.
Regardless of who's starting, the Javelinas will have a tough time forcing mistakes, as the Wildcats have only been intercepted a conference low, five times this season.
Defensively, the Wildcats have a strong secondary led by defensive back Patrick Rogers who leads the LSC and is ninth in Division II in passes defended this season.
The Wildcats also have the highest-rated red zone defense in the LSC.
LAST TIME OUT
No. 15 Texas A&M - Kingsville fell for the first time this season, losing 34-7 to No. 2 Angelo State.
The Javelina defense did everything it could to keep TAMUK in the game forcing two turnovers, including a pick-six by cornerback
Amos Coleman which would prove to be the only Javelina points on the night.
ASU's top-ranked defense, stifled the Javelina offense all night, limiting the Javelinas to 145 total offensive yards while also forcing two turnovers.
The Rams offense struck on their first drive of the game, going 67-yards on nine plays as running back Nate Omayebu III punched the ball in from one yard out to give ASU an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
The Javelinas would strike back in the first though when defensive back
Amos Coleman stepped in front of a Zach Bronkhorst pass, intercepting it and taking it 20-yards the other way to the house tying the game at 7-7 with under a minute remaining in the first quarter.
The Rams would respond on their next drive, getting down to the Javelina's 12 yard line on an 8-play, 53-yard drive, but ASU would only manage a field goal as the Rams took a 10-7 lead with 12:42 in the second quarter.
Later in the quarter, the Javelinas would get into the Rams red zone for the first time, but a fumble by quarterback
Jacob Cavazos on the Ram 19 would be recovered by ASU.
ASU would capitalize on the turnover going 73 yards on nine plays the following drive, but would once again be held to a field goal pushing the margin to 13-7 with 2:02 in the first half.
The Ram defense would force another turnover on the next Javelina drive, as a Cavazos' pass would be intercepted on the Javelina 48 yard line.
Four plays later, Bronkhorst would find a Ram on a 12-yard touchdown pass with 19 seconds left in the half putting ASU up 20-7.
The Rams would pick right back up in the second half taking the opening drive inside the red zone, but a holding penalty negated a would-be touchdown. The Rams would then be forced to attempt a 27-yard field goal that was missed wide right.
ASU then forced a Javelina three-and-out before blocking the subsequent punt and returning it for a touchdown putting the Rams up 27-7 with 5:42 in the third quarter.
The Javelina defense looked to spark the team as Cory McMahan forced an ASU fumble that was recovered by
Ezrah Thibodeaux at the end of the third quarter, but the offense would stall again, going three-and-out.
The Rams capped off the win with a one-yard touchdown pass with 5:06 left in the game, pushing the score to its final of 34-7.
