OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – A three-run rally by the No. 12 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs in the bottom of the third was too much for the Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team to overcome in a 4-2 defeat in the Lone Star Conference Tournament semifinals on Friday afternoon at Tom Heath Field in Oklahoma City, Okla.

The Javelinas now own a record of 25-13 in 2021, while the Lady Buffs are 33-10.

WT was the first team to get on the board, using a walk and two singles to load the bases and a fielder's choice brought in the game's first run.

TAMUK responded in the third, when, with a runner on, sophomore Loren Kelly (Rockport, Texas) lofted a triple into center and came around to score thanks to an error to put the Javelinas ahead, 2-1.

Unfortunately for the Javs, their lead didn't last long. A two-out, two-run homer from Alyx Cordell in the bottom of the frame thrust WT back in front and they added another run later in the inning to go up 4-2.

Despite their efforts, the Javelinas couldn't find a way to get the lead back. After a scoreless fourth and fifth, the Javs nearly put their first two runners on in the sixth, but a controversial call that went against TAMUK to begin the frame helped kill their shot at a rally. The Javelinas put two runners on the seventh to bring up the go-ahead run with two outs, but a fielder's choice brought the game to an end.

The Javelinas now must cross their fingers and wait for the Division II Softball Selection Show on Sunday to find out if they've earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
