KINGSVILLE, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball program closes out the home portion of the 2021 campaign with a three-game set against Eastern New Mexico at Nolan Ryan Field in the Lone Star Conference matchup.
Game one of the series is set for 6 p.m. CT on Thursday, April 29, followed by game two at 6 p.m. CT on Friday, April 30. Senior Day festivities highlight the series finale on Saturday, May 1, with first pitch set for 1 p.m. CT.
The Javelinas last took to the field on April 17 for the second game against St. Edward's, which finished 13-1 in favor of the Hilltoppers. The series finale on April 18 was canceled due to COVID protocols as TAMUK also missed out on a three-game set on the road the following week at West Texas A&M.
A 15-9 overall record and 14-9 mark in league games punctuate the Blue and Gold spring effort with two weeks remaining in the regular season. The Javelinas finish the year on the road against Cameron in a reschedule series from earlier in the year and are currently fifth in the LSC standings, though they would be seeded fourth for the tournament as UT Tyler is slotted ahead but is also ineligible for postseason competition.
Junior Giancarlo Servin (Edinburg, Texas) leads the offensive effort with a .349 clip at the plate with 29 hits, two doubles and a team-high four home runs coupled with 22 RBI and 12 runs scored. He is followed by senior Seth Spinn (Holland, Texas) who is hitting .344 with a team-best 32 hits, six doubles and four triples along with three home runs, 19 RBI and 20 runs scored.
Freshman Damian Rodriguez (McAllen, Texas) rounds out the top three with a .319 clip behind 29 hits, one double, one triple and two home runs. He also owns 12 RBI and 19 runs scored as one of two Javelinas who have started all 24 games in 2021.
The last Hog to hit over .300 on the year is newcomer Garrett Thompson (New Braunfels, Texas) who owns a .306 clip with 15 hits and four doubles.
The Blue and Gold hurlers are led by junior Kolby Lunsford (Helotes, Texas) with a 3.95 ERA to lead the starting lineup. He has allowed 24 runs, 18 earned, and has picked up 31 strikeouts in 41 innings pitched for a 3-3 record in seven starts.
Right behind Lunsford is classmate Logan Garza (Round Rock, Texas) who sports a 2-1 record with a 4.21 ERA and team-high 72 strikeouts in 47 innings pitched as he has only allowed 23 runs, 22 earned, and 24 walks.
The Greyhounds enter the series with an 8-27 record and 7-25 mark in LSC games. ENMU snapped an eight-game losing streak with two wins over Texas A&M International last week, but went 1-16 in the 17 games before the series against the Dustdevils.
Cole Luedeking leads the Greyhounds with a .292 clip off 33 hits, six doubles, 15 RBI and 21 runs scored. The team leader in hits is Nicholas Tamez who owns 34 for a .291 average to go with five doubles, five home runs, 24 RBI and 20 runs scored, though there isn't a single ENMU player hitting over .300 on the year.
The pitching staff owns a collective 9.84 ERA in 35 games, with Josh Lewis and Dalton Thatcher as the lone starters with an ERA under 7.00. Lewis owns a 6.75 ERA in 37.1 innings on the hill for a 0-4 record and 30 strikeouts, while Thatcher is 1-5 with a 6.80 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 42.1 innings pitched.
