NEW ORLEANS - The Texas A&M-Kingsville beach volleyball program fell in its final match of the Bayou Beach Duals on Saturday to ULM by a score of 3-2.
The Javelinas (4-3) took straight-set victories in their two points, but the Warhawks (2-6) endured three-set battles in the remaining flights to secure the decision.
Graduate student Shelby Williams (New Braunfels, Texas) and senior Debra Rogers (Tulsa, Okla.) took over in the second pairing for a win against Anna Demmer and Katie McKay with identical scores of 21-19 and 21-19. There were bested only by freshmen Rylie Anderson (Justin, Texas) and Emily North (Red Oak, Texas) in the fifth tandem as the TAMUK pair downed Ina Gosen and Holland Ponthieux at 21-18, 21-9.
ULM got wins in the first, third and fourth matchups, with Audrey Brooks and Julia Blazek overcoming sophomore Roxanne Morris (Goliad, Texas) and senior Olivia Nicholson (North Platte, Neb.) in the top flight in three sets. The Javelina pair claimed the first set at 21-17 before the Warhawk duo took the next two sets at 21-13 and 15-7.
Abigail Elder and Kayla Gallant secured a team point in the third flight, despite junior Macy Berg (San Antonio, Texas) and junior Tenley Housler (Bulverde, Texas) clinching the first set at 21-18. The duo from ULM rebounded in the second set at 21-15 before a 15-11 score punctuated the final set in their favor.
The last matchup to go to the Warhawks came in the fourth pairing. Graduate student TaylorLynn Noga (Anchorage, Alaska) and freshman Macie Satterwhite (Callisburg, Texas) ended up with the first set at 21-14 before Elizabeth Moreland and Abbey Bufkin took the next two at 21-15 and 15-13.
The Javelinas return to action on Wednesday, March 10, at the Javelina Beach Courts with a match against crosstown Division I rival Texas A&M-Corpus Christi starting at 10 a.m. CT.
