Golf Shores, AL - Texas A&M - Kingsville started their Pool Play at the AVCA Small College Championships with a 3-0 victory over Vanguard University. While Pair Play won their first match against Mobile University 2-1 and lost their second match against Tampa 0-2.
Pairs 3, 4, and 5 swept their competition to open up the tournament with
Emma Daugherty and
Kastyn Hoffman making quick work in their match-up, 21-18, 21-17.
Elizabeth Williams and
Kate Wozniak weren't too far off themselves after a slightly extended first set; they quickly shelved the competition in the second set, 22-20, 21-12. Lastly, to close it out and secure the team victory,Â
Presley Gardner and
Clara Presmanes-Garate closed it out with the same sets, 21-19, 21-19.
Callie Freeman and
Gessell Martinez participated in the Pairs Challenge, taking on Mobile University and Tampa University. In their first match against Mobile, the pair took it to three sets after dropping the first, reverse sweeping Mobile's #1 Pairs Challenge team, 19-21, 21-12, 15-9. Their second match against Tampa's #2 pairs team would wind up sweeping Freeman and Martinez, 14-21, 16-21.
