FORT WORTH, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville beach volleyball team bounced back from an early morning, 3-2 defeat to the Lousiana-Monroe Warhawks and snapped up a 3-2 win over the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks on Saturday afternoon in Fort Worth, Texas.
This win and a loss puts the Javelinas at 6-5 in 2021.
"We showed a lot of fight today," said coach Tanya Allen, "especially in our third set wins. I'm proud of our overall effort as a team."
TAMUK vs. ULM
For the second time in 2021, the Javs nearly pulled one out against the Warhawks and they started the day with a 21-19, 24-26, 15-12 battle in the No. 5 flight which was won by freshmen Emily North (Red Oak, Texas) and Rylie Anderson (Justin, Texas). After ULM won the fourth and third flights, sophomore Roxanne Morris (Goliad, Texas) and senior Olivia Nicholson (North Platte, Neb.) outlasted the opposition at No. 1, 15-21, 21-10, 15-9. Only a narrow win in the No. 2 match by ULM allowed them to collect the win.
TAMUK vs. SFA
Anderson and North immediately got TAMUK on the board against the Lumberjacks in straight sets at No. 5, 25-23, 21-17. SFA jumped ahead with wins at Nos. 4 and 3, but seniors Shelby Williams (New Braunfels, Texas) and Debra Rogers (Tulsa, Okla.) brought the Javs even by outfighting their foes in the second flight, 21-19, 10-21, 18-16.
The finishing touches on TAMUK's sixth victory of season were applied by Morris and Nicholson. They were forced to rebound after dropping the first set by five, but forged a tie by taking the second game 21-16 before capturing a 15-13 nail-biter in the third to secure the victory.
TAMUK's next road trip takes them to Nacogdoches, Texas, where they'll take on the Southeastern Louisiana Lions on Friday at 3 p.m., followed by a 5 p.m. contest against SFA.
