KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville football program returns to action this weekend with its final contest of the spring schedule against UT Permian Basin.
Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. CT at Pepsi Field at Javelina Stadium on Saturday, March 20. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at JavelinaTickets.com.
The Javelinas last took to the gridiron on March 6 against Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, Texas, and fell by a score of 45-34. Redshirt sophomore Zadock Dinklemann (Somerset, Texas) three for 316 yards and two touchdowns in his collegiate debut, finding redshirt junior Ryan Martinez (Kingsville, Texas) and senior Kevin Reynolds (Houston, Texas) for each of his scores.
Both Martinez and Reynolds finished with 63 receiving yards as the former did so in six catches while the latter needed only three.
The remaining three touchdowns came on the ground with redshirt sophomore Amonte Bowen (Donna, Texas) and the freshman duo of Roger Hagan (Houston, Texas) and Craig Clemons (Corpus Christi, Texas) all tabbed for one each. Bowen finished with 32 rushing yards, followed by Hagan and Clemons with 16 apiece.
MSU Texas struck first and eventually built up a 24-7 lead at halftime. The Mustangs pushed their lead to 38-13 at the end of the third before the Hogs turned in three scores in the fourth quarter en route to the final.
UTPB has won each of its three games in the spring to date, first by defeating Southern Nazarene at 33-14 on February 27 to open the campaign. That win was followed by a 54-20 decision on Lincoln (Mo.) on March 6 before the Falcons visited Silver City, N.M., on March 13 for a 31-6 victory over Western New Mexico.
Clayton Roberts has seen the most action in the pocket for the Falcons as he has thrown for 526 yards and 10 touchdowns in three games. He has turned in a 45.7% completion percentage, going 32-for-70 through the air so far, with one interception.
Roberts has used the same three receivers for each of his touchdowns with four going to Baylon Ware for 188 yards on nine catches. Kobe Robinson and M.J. Link have each caught three touchdown passes, as the former has made 10 catches for 150 yards while the latter has six catches and 122 yards.
UTPB has only scored twice on the ground, both in short-yardage situations, as the leading rusher is also Roberts who has 157 rushing yards in three games.
The Falcon defense is anchored by Miquon Mayes who leads the way with 28 tackles. Right behind him is John O'Kelley and Donta Stuart with 20 apiece as O'Kelley has five tackles for loss. As a team, UTPB is averaging 300.7 yards in three games, while opponents have put up 261.3 yards.
