Gonzales sets the schedule for Javelina baseball in 2022

12 Lone Star Conference series and two non-conference games punctuate 2022 campaign

KINGSVILLE, Texas - 12 four-game series and a pair of non-conference contests highlight the 2022 campaign for the Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball program as head coach Jason Gonzales embarks on his 14th season as the lead man.

"Our 2022 LSC schedule will once again be one of the toughest in the country," said Gonzales. "Having to open up conference play on opening day is a challenge, paired with a 48-game league slate.

"Every weekend will be a dog fight, but we couldn't be more excited to suit up and get into those confrontations."

The Javelinas open their schedule at Nolan Ryan Field with a series against Cameron beginning February 4. The Hogs alternate their home/road series throughout the year as they face UT Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas, the following week on February 11.

The remaining home series on the schedule includes four-game sets against UT Tyler (February 18-20), Oklahoma Christian (March 4-6), Lubbock Christian (March 18-20), Texas A&M International (April 1-3), and West Texas A&M (April 22-24).

The road contests in 2022 take TAMUK to UAFS (February 25-27), St. Mary's (March 11-13), Angelo State (25-27), St. Edward's (April 14-16), and the season finale against Eastern New Mexico (April 29-May 1). Angelo State is the reigning Lone Star Conference Champions after defeating Lubbock Christian in bracket play in 2021, as well as the reigning South Central Regional Champions after sprinting past WT in late May.

The 2022 schedule also features two non-conference games against Texas A&M International, with former Javelina assistant coach Philip Middleton in his second year at the helm of the program. The Hogs visit Laredo, Texas, on February 15 before the Dustdevils repay the favor on March 1.

The LSC Tournament is once again broken up into two portions for 2022, with the first week of May 6-8 set as a best-of-three series between the eight teams to make it. The Javelinas have reached the LSC tournament for 11 consecutive years, 2020 notwithstanding due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and last won the bracket in 2013.

Bracket play of the LSC Baseball Championship is set for May 12-14 at the highest seed remaining.

The NCAA Tournament begins the following week on May 19 with the South Central Regional, while the second full year of the South Central Super Regional begins on May 27. The NCAA introduced the updated format ahead of the 2019 season but reverted back to the old format in 2021 due to the pandemic.

The 2022 NCAA Division II College World Series, set to take place at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C., starts on June 4 with a champion crowned on June 11. The Javelinas claimed their first-ever South Central Regional title in 2018 and finished as the sixth-ranked team in the country after they secured their first win at the final site in program history against Mercyhurst on May 29, but bowed out of the final bracket to Florida Southern on May 30.
