Final road trip to Odessa awaits Javelinas

Kickoff against the Falcons set for 2 p.m. CT at Ratliff Stadium

The Matchup    
  • The Javelinas head out on the road one final time in 2021 with an LSC matchup against UT Permian Basin on Saturday, November 6, in Odessa, Texas
  • Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. CT at Ratliff Stadium and will broadcast live on the Mendoza's Pharmacy Javelina Sports Network with Mark Inserra on the call
  • Saturday marks the sixth matchup between the programs as UTPB's first season as a program came in the 2016 year
  • TAMUK leads the series 3-2 while the Falcons have won the past two matchups, including a 17-2 decision in the COVID season on March 20, 2021
  • The Hogs' last win cameon November 10, 2018, at 24-21 that was sealed on a last-minute interception from senior Sean Landez
Scouting the Falcons    
  • UTPB is 5-3 on the year with a 3-2 league record after suffering a 41-0 defeat at the hands of A&M-Commerce last week
  • The Falcons have picked up wins over Southwest Baptist, West Texas A&M, Western New Mexico, Lincoln (Calif.) and Eastern New Mexico
  • Abilene Christian and Angelo State are the other teams that handed UTPB a loss on the year
  • Jayvon Davis leads the ground game with 461 yards and five touchdowns on 91 carries, followed by 393 yards and two scores from Nathan Tilford
  • Clayton Roberts has been the primary signal-caller for the Falcons and owns 1404 yards on 113 completions across 211 attempts for 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions
  • Roberts' top target has been M.J. Link who has 34 catches for 540 yards and eight scores
  • Kobe Robinson owns 33 receptions for 377 yards and a touchdown, while Jordan Smart has three receiving scores in 25 catches for 233 yards
  • Miquon Mayes leads the defensive effort with 48 tackles along with 7.5 for loss and one sack
  • Derrian Forge has 11 tackles for loss for UTPB, most on the team, along with 45 tackles
  • La'Daidreain Glasker leads the way with 4.5 sacks, while Jaques Tyler has four interceptions
Last Time Out    
  • The Javelinas fell to West Texas A&M on Homecoming, 35-23, as the Buffs jumped out to a 21-2 lead
  • The Hogs recorded a safety on the first play scrimmage as Dailon Gants put a stop to the pass from Nick Gerber to Brandon Blair
  • WT scored the next 21 points before Gilbert Garza booted a 27-yard field goal to close the first half
  • TAMUK got a touchdown from Christian Anderson to start the third quarter, followed by a 37-yard try from Garza, before the Buffs closed the door for good with a Gerber touchdown pass and a Jordan Johnson touchdown run to end the game
The First Of Many    
  • The 24-10 win over Western Oregon on September 11 was the first win for head coach Mike Salinas in his tenure as the Hogs' lead man
  • The 36-10 win over Eastern New Mexico on September 18 was the first league win for Salinas
  • Salinas took over the program in December 2019 as the 12th head coach and 11th full-time head coach of Javelina Football
Grind It Out    
  • The Javelinas compiled 214 yards on the ground as a team in the 24-10 win over Western Oregon, most since October 19, 2019, when the program finished with 237 rushing yards
  • The 2019 season also featured 302 rushing yards against Sul Ross State on September 14
  • TAMUK picked up another 348 yards rushing in a 51-21 win over Lincoln (Calif.) on October 16
Getting Stingy    
  • The Javelina defense allowed only 58 rushing yards against Eastern New Mexico on September 18
  • It is the fourth time in the five games since Mike Salinas took over that the defense held its opponents to fewer than 70 rushing yards in the game, including the two games in the spring of 2021
  • The Javelina defense didn't allow more than 100 yards on the ground in any of the four contests since Salinas took over the program in December 2019
  • The 124 total yards of offense allowed against ENMU is also the fewest allowed against a Division II opponent since 2017 when the program held West Texas A&M to 187 total yards in a 37-9 win on October 7
  • The 80 yards rushing allowed against Western New Mexico on October 23 was the fourth time this year the defense held its opponent to fewer that 100 yards, joining Saginaw Valley State (90 yds - Sept 4), Western Oregon (67 yds - Sept 11), and ENMU on the year
I'm Not Over You Just Yet    
  • The Javelina defense recorded three takeaways in the first two contests of 2021 and added another three forced turnovers against Lincoln (Calif.) on October 16 and Western New Mexico on October 23
  • TAMUK picked up a fumble and intercepted two passes against Saginaw Valley State on September 4
  • The Hogs added two fumbles and one interception in the win over Western Oregon on September 11
  • Two more interceptions and a fumble came during the win over LU, matched the next week against WNMU
  • TAMUK had three games in 2019 with at least three takeaways
The First Time Since...    
  • The 24-10 win over Western Oregon snapped a four-game losing streak as the Javelinas last defeated the Wolves in the NAIA Semifinals on November 29, 1975
  • The win over WOU was also the first win at home over a Division II foe since November 10, 2018, when the Hogs defeated UT Permian Basin 24-21 in the season finale
  • The 36-10 win over Eastern New Mexico was the first win to start conference play for the Javelinas since September 8, 2012, when the program defeated No. 9 Abilene Christian 16-13
  • The Javelinas blocked a punt and recovered it for a touchdown in the 30-13 loss to Midwestern State on October 9
  • Marco Noriega had the block and initial recovery while Darian Mayberry capped the touchdown
  • The last time the Javelinas blocked a punt and recovered it for a touchdown was in a 30-14 loss on the road to Angelo State on September 15, 2018
  • Keshon Rowe had the initial block while Jacob Armstrong ended up on the ball in the endzone
  • Amos Coleman blocked a PAT against Midwestern State in the second half, first time since the 2018 season when Justin Loften blocked a PAT at home against Midwestern State
  • Shane Johnson's 101 rushing yards in the 51-21 win over Lincoln (Calif.) on October 16 was the most by a quarterback since Trey Mitchell finished with 154 on October 18, 2014 in a 57-31 loss to Angelo State
  • The 348 rushing yards as a team in the win over LU was the most by the Javelinas since November 7, 2015, when the team ran for 328 in a 43-25 win over Tarleton
