Javelinas host Wolves for midweek matchup

Tipoff set for 2 p.m. CT at the Steinke Physical Education Center on November 24

THE MATCHUP    
• The Javelinas are back at home for a midweek matchup agaisnt Western Oregon with tip off at 2 p.m. CT at the SPEC on Wednesday, November 24
• This will be the first meeting between the teams
• TAMUK moved to 2-1 on the year after splitting the games on its Colorado road trip
• The Javelinas fell to MSU Denver, 50-44, but bounced back with a 59-57 win over UC Colorado Springs on a buzzer-beater from Georgia Ohiaeri
• Western Oregon is 3-1 on the year after defeating Chico State and Sonoma State last week
• The Wolves also picked up a win over Willamette on November 14 following a loss to No. 25 Hawai'i Pacific on November 12
• Meadow Aragon leads WOU with a 14.8 scoring average on a blistering 64.9% shooting clip
• Aragon also owns 8.5 rebounds per game to lead the team
• Cali McClave is the second Wolf on the scoring chart with 9.0 per game, followed by Kaelin Williams-Kennedy at 8.0
• McClave is shooting at a 40.6% rate, while Williams-Kennedy owns a 50.0 shooting percentage
• As a team, WOU is averaging 70.5 points while holding opponents to 60.0 per game

Last Time Out    
• The Javelinas fell to MSU Denver, 50-44, at the Auraria Events Center in Denver to start the road trip last week
• Jayde Tschritter led the team with 12 points coupled with four rebounds and two steals
• Georgia Ohiaeri added eight points, while Mia Rivers collected seven points and three steals
• TAMUK closed the gap to one point in the fourth quarter twice before the Roadrunners held on for the win
• The Blue and Gold followed up with a 59-57 thrilling victory over UC Colorado Springs to wrap up the road trip
• Ohiaeri posted 13 points, five rebounds and two steals, including the buzzer-beating, game-winning shot
• Mia Cherry added nine points, while Anastacia Mickens and Devon Williams both tallied seven
• Kryslyn Jones tacked on three points, five rebounds and five steals, most steals by a Javelina since Treazure Mouton picked up five on December 19, 2019, against UT Permian Basin

Blanked    
• The Javelinas held Chadron State to zero points in the third quarter en route to a 58-51 win on November 12 to open the season
• It is the first time ever the Javelinas held their opponents to zero points in a quarter since the NCAA shifted to the quarter format ahead of the 2015-16 season
• Since head coach Michael Madrid took over, the Javelinas have held their opponents to fewer than 10 points in a quarter 29 times
• The previous lowest output allowed by TAMUK with Madrid at the helm came in the 2019-20 season when they limited St. Mary's to two points in the first quarter on January 18
• The Javelinas also held Midwestern State to two points in the third quarter in the 2016-17 season on February 2

Bring 'Em Back    
• Pena leads a group of 10 returners for the 2021-22, one year after being named All-LSC second team
• Pena led the Javelinas with a 14.2 scoring average while shooting 46.4% from the floor, the highest scoring output by a member of the Blue and Gold since Felicia Soza average 15.6 in 2009-10
• Cherry's All-LSC honorable mention season came courtesy of 9.8 points per game while shooting 35.7% from the field as she appeared in 12 games
• Payne's All-Freshman campaign was on the heels of a 8.4 scoring rate with a 44.6% clip from beyond the arc
• Anastacia Mickens returns as the lone senior, while sophomore Maeghan Palmer is back for her third year in the Blue and Gold
• The remaining freshman who returned include Mia Rivers, Annelise Dominguez, Devon Williams, Veyda Lake and Jayde Tschritter
