NEW ORLEANS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville beach volleyball team scored their sixth sweep of 2020 with a clean, 5-0 victory over the Southeastern Louisiana Lions on the first day of the New Orleans Invitational at the Digs Volleyball Complex in New Orleans. The Javelinas dropped the first match to the New Orleans Privateers, 5-0. The Javs ended the day with a 7-2 record.
TAMUK vs. SLU
The Javelinas didn't drop a single set to SLU in claiming their seventh win of 2020. The victory started with freshmen Emily North (Red Oak, Texas) and Macie Satterwhite (Callisburg, Texas) claiming the fifth flight, 21-14, 21-17, followed by a triumph in the No. 5 match by freshmen Kailey Estrada (San Antonio, Texas) and Rylie Anderson (Justin, Texas), 21-14, 21-17. Junior Shelby Tate (New Braunfels, Texas) and senior Melanie Casteel (Dallas, Texas) came out on top at No. 6, 21-13, 21-13
The top three matches began with a 21-19, 21-9 win courtesy of juniors Meghan Merlino (Sacramento, Calif.) and Macy Berg (San Antonio, Texas) at No. 2. Junior Tenley Housler (Bulverde, Texas) and sophomore Roxanne Morris (Goliad, Texas) took the top flight, 21-13, 22-20 and the sweep was closed out in the third spot by senior Shelby Williams (New Braunfels, Texas) and junior Kapri Pelle (Auburn, Calif.), 21-19, 21-16. 
TAMUK vs. UNO
The Privateers became the first team to sweep the Javs in 2020 despite an effort by North and Satterwhite that pushed their match to three sets. The bright spot for TAMUK came in the No. 6 flight, which senior Maelee Sowa (Sealy, Texas) and Casteel won in comeback fashion, 16-21, 22-20, 15-7. 
The Javs will be on the court three more times on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. with a matchup against Spring Hill College.
