Javelinas pay visit to Mustangs and Aggies for LSC contests

Matchup against MSU Texas set for January 30 before game against CU awaits on February 1

THE MATCHUPS    
• The Javelinas are back on the road this week and they trek north for LSC games against Midwestern State and Cameron
• Tipoff for the contest against the Mustangs is set for 5:30 p.m. CT in Wichita Falls, Texas, on Thursday, January 30
• The matchup against the Aggies will follow on Saturday, February 1, with tipoff at 2 p.m. CT in Lawton, Okla.
• The Javelinas are looking to snap a five-game skid as they fell to West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico last week
• MSU Texas is coming off an 0-2 week with losses to Oklahoma Christian and UAFS this past weekend
• Elizabeth Cathcart and Hannah Reynolds are the one-two punch for the Mustangs as they average 14.1 and 11.3 points per game, respectively
• Cathcart also leads the team with 6.9 rebounds per game, followed by Reynolds at 4.3 per game
• Mica Schneider has started all but one game on the year and rounds out the trio with a 9.7 scoring average
• CU flipped the script on their previous weekend with wins over UAFS and OC
• Maighan is among the best scorers in the nation as she averages 20.1 per outing on a 41.1% clip
• Ava Battese is second with a 16.4 scoring average, followed by Amake Nwakamma rounds out the trio with a 10.1 rate
• The Aggies' defense has struggled to capitalize on the scoring output as they give up 80.1 points per game to opponents

Run It Back    
• The Javelinas went 0-2 last week with losses to No. 21/18 West Texas A&M and Eastern New Mexico
• The nationally-ranked Lady Buffs took the win at 56-32, holding TAMUK to its lowest output of the season
• Bridget Upton led the Blue and Gold with 12 points, while Bri-Anna Soliz recorded a season-high 11 rebounds in the loss
• The Greyhounds followed up with a 60-45 win to close out the weekend over the Javelinas
• Upton matched her career-high of 16 points in the loss on 6-for-11 shooting from the floor, including a 4-for-6 mark from beyond the arc
• Mickens added 13 points to her total along with eight rebounds

Get Back on Defense    
• The Javelinas held the Patriots to 38 points in the win on January 9, the ninth time in program history TAMUK held opponents to fewer than 40 points
• It is the third time in the last four seasons the Javelinas held an opponent to fewer than 40 points after limiting Chadron to 37 in 2018-19 and 35 to East Central in 2016-17
• The fewest points allowed came in the inaugural season in 1977-78 with a 48-27 win over St. Mary's
• TAMUK held the Rattlers to two points in the first quarter on January 18, the lowest total allowed from an opponent all year
• In total, the Javelinas have held opponents to fewer than 10 points in a quarter on 13 separate occasions

Seeing Double    
• There have been two double-doubles on the year so far for the Javelinas
• Jalynn Johnson recorded both of them with exactly 11 points and 10 rebounds on two separate occasions
• Her first double-double came against UAFS on November 23 and she matched the feat against UT Permian Basin on December 19
• TAMUK recorded six double-doubles as a team in 2018-19, with Bri-Anna Soliz posting the most at four, most recently 15 points and 13 rebounds against Cameron on February 28

Fill the Stat Sheets    
• The Javelinas have had someone record at least 10 points in a game on 26 occasions
• Ravae Payne owns the season-high of 23 points recorded twice, first against Texas A&M International on December 14 and second against Texas Woman's on January 4
• Payne is the only Javelina to score over 20 in a game and she has done so four times, including a 21-point performance against A&M-Commerce on January 11 and a 20-point outburst against UT Permian Basin on December 19
• Bridget Upton leads the team with six games scoring at least 10 points, followed by Payne and Anastacia Mickens with five each, and Jalynn Johnson with four
• Upton has recorded three straight games with at least 10 points, including a career-high 16 twice, and has scored at least 10 points in six of the last nine games
• Johnson, Mickens and Bri-Anna Soliz are the only Javelinas to record at least 10 rebounds in a game, with Soliz owning the team-high of 11 against West Texas A&M on January 23
• Johnson has three games with at least 10 rebounds

• In 2019-20: Has appeared in seven games; season-high eight minutes and two points against Chadron State on Nov. 9
• In 2018-19: Season-high 21 minutes against Black Hills State on Nov. 9, scored five points against A&M-C on Jan. 31
• Transfer from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, appeared in 22 games for NEO, averaging 2.4 ppg

#1 Daisah Purnell    
• In 2019-20: Has appeared in all 15 games with three starts; season-high 11 points against UT Tyler on January 9; 29 minutes against TAMIU on Dec. 14
• Transfer from Highland Community College; appeared in 27 games, averaged 7.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game in 2018-19; averaged 2.8 points and 1.8 rebounds per game in 2017-18
• From Kansas City, Mo.

#4 Bridget Upton    
• In 2019-20: Has appeared in 13 games, with nine straight starts, with her first career start coming against WNMU on Dec. 21; season-high 16 points against St. Mary's on Jan. 18 and ENMU on Jan. 25
• In 2018-19: Season-high 18 minutes against TAMUC on Jan. 31, six points against TSU on Feb. 2 and ASU on Dec. 6
• 2018 Offensive Player of the Year for George West H.S., All-Region, All-South Texas and CBCA All-Star selection

#5 Madison Lucas    
• In 2019-20: Has appeared in 14 games with one start; season-high six points and 16 minutes against Chadron State on Nov. 9; matched her career-high of six points against Tarleton on Jan. 2
• True freshman from Houston, Texas

#10 Treazure Mouton    
• In 2019-20: Has appeared in all 15 games with five starts; season-high five points against ENMU on Jan. 2; season-high five rebounds against Texas Woman's on Jan. 4; season-high five assists against Texas Woman's on Jan. 4
• Transfer from Temple College, also played at Tyler Junior College
• Appeared in 30 games, averaged 6.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game last year

#11 Angelica Wall    
• In 2019-20: Has appeared in 10 games; career-high five points against A&M-Commerce on Jan. 11
• In 2018-19:  Totaled 18 minutes against TAMUC on Dec. 1; scored four points against Tarleton on Feb. 2
• Appeared in 27 total games for two years for Adams State, averaged 2.6 ppg in 2016-17
• Averaged 3.3 minutes in 2015-16 and 8.2 minutes in 2016-17

#13 Ravae Payne    
• In 2019-20: Has appeared in 12 games with 11 starts; career-high 23 points against TAMIU on Dec 14, matched on Jan. 4 against TWU and 40 minutes against UTPB on Dec. 19
• In 2018-19: Ended the year scoring double figures in three of her last four contests, including 17 against CU on Feb. 28
• Transfer from South Plains College
• Appeared in 14 games, averaged 1.3 points on 3.5 minutes per game for SPC

#21 Jalynn Johnson
