Javelinas hit the road for St. Edward's, St. Mary's

TAMUK will face Hilltoppers and Rattlers in divisional action this week

THE MATCHUPS    
• The Javelinas are back on the road this week as they visit St. Edward's on January 16 in Austin, Texas, before traveling to St. Mary's on January 18 in San Antonio
• Tipoff against the Hilltoppers is set for 5:30 p.m. CT, while the game against the Rattlers will begin at 2 p.m. CT
• TAMUK split two contests last week with a 55-38 win over UT Tyler followed by a 72-54 loss to No. 5/5 A&M-Commerce
• SEU is 9-5 on the year with a 5-4 record in Lone Star Conference games after splitting with Midwestern State and Cameron
• Deijah Blanks, D'aviyon Magazine and Christina Mason have started all 14 games for the Hilltoppers
• Blanks is by far the best scorer in the conference as she averaged 19.6 per game on a 47.2% clip coupled with a 4.7 rebounding average
• Magazine is second with 8.5 points to go with 5.2 rebounds per game
• StMU is 6-7 on the season with an identical 5-4 mark in league play after a sweep of the Mustangs and Aggies
• Soteria Banks is second in the conference with a 19.2 scoring average at a 43.1% clip to go with 5.2 rebounds per game after starting all 13 contests for the Rattlers
• Hannah Wilson has appeared in all 13 games with 11 starts and owns 9.3 points and 8.8 rebounds per game while shooting at a blistering 52.0% rate
• Sydney Hardeman has been first off the bench for St. Mary's and has posted 6.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per game

Last Time Out    
• The Javelinas took down UT Tyler on January 9, 55-38, behind a career day from Bridget Upton, but fell to No. 5/5 A&M-Commerce on January 11, 72-54, despite 21 points from Ravae Payne
• Upton put away 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the win over the Patriots in 31 minutes on the floor, all career-highs
• Daisah Purnell added 11 points off the bench for TAMUK against UTT, while Payne recorded seven points and seven assists
• Payne followed up with her fourth 20-point game of the season as she posted 21 against the Lions while she added four rebounds and four assists
• Jalynn Johnson added nine points and three rebounds to the team effort, while Anastacia Mickens added a team-high seven rebounds to go with four assists

Get Back on Defense    
• The Javelinas held the Patriots to 38 points in the win on January 9, the ninth time in program history TAMUK held opponents to fewer than 40 points
• It is the third time in the last four seasons the Javelinas held an opponent to fewer than 40 points after limiting Chadron to 37 in 2018-19 and 35 to East Central in 2016-17
• The fewest points allowed came in the inaugural season in 1977-78 with a 48-27 win over St. Mary's

Seeing Double    
• There have been two double-doubles on the year so far for the Javelinas
• Jalynn Johnson recorded both of them with exactly 11 points and 10 rebounds on two separate occasions
• Her first double-double came against UAFS on November 23 and she matched the feat against UT Permian Basin on December 19
• TAMUK recorded six double-doubles as a team in 2018-19, with Bri-Anna Soliz posting the most at four, most recently 15 points and 13 rebounds against Cameron on February 28

Fill the Stat Sheets    
• The Javelinas have had someone record at least 10 points in a game on 18 occasions
• Ravae Payne owns the team season-high of 23 in the loss to Texas A&M International on December 14, which she matched against Texas Woman's on January 4 in a comeback win
• Payne's other instances scoring over 20 came against UT Permian Basin on December 19 (20) and No. 5/5 A&M-Commerce on January 11 (21)
• Jalynn Johnson added 15 points against Chadron State on November 9
• Anastacia Mickens cross the 10-point threshold against TAMIU as well with 11
• Mickens also grabbed 10 rebounds against CSC

Under New Management    
• This is the first year for new head coach Michael Madrid
• Madrid's first career win at the helm of the program came on November 9 against Chadron State at 63-57, while his first Lone Star Conference win came on January 4 against Texas Woman's in a 57-53 comeback decision on the road
• Madrid's first home win came in the program's first-ever meeting against UT Tyler on January 9 at 55-38

#00 Lidia Guiral    
• In 2019-20: Has appeared in six games; season-high eight minutes and two points against Chadron State on Nov. 9
• In 2018-19: Season-high 21 minutes against Black Hills State on Nov. 9, scored five points against A&M-C on Jan. 31
• Transfer from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, appeared in 22 games for NEO, averaging 2.4 ppg

#1 Daisah Purnell    
• In 2019-20: Has appeared in all 11 games with three starts; season-high 11 points against UT Tyler on January 9; 29 minutes against TAMIU on Dec. 14
• Transfer from Highland Community College; appeared in 27 games, averaged 7.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game in 2018-19; averaged 2.8 points and 1.8 rebounds per game in 2017-18
• From Kansas City, Mo.

#4 Bridget Upton    
• In 2019-20: Has appeared in nine games, five starts, with her first career start coming against WNMU on Dec. 21; 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists and 31 minutes against UT Tyler on January 9, all career-highs
• In 2018-19: Season-high 18 minutes against TAMUC on Jan. 31, six points against TSU on Feb. 2 and ASU on Dec. 6
• 2018 Offensive Player of the Year for George West H.S., All-Region, All-South Texas and CBCA All-Star selection

#5 Madison Lucas    
• In 2019-20: Has appeared in 10 games with one start; season-high six points and 16 minutes against Chadron State on Nov. 9; matched her career-high of six points against Tarleton on Jan. 2
• True freshman from Houston, Texas
• Prepped at St. Agnes Academy

#10 Treazure Mouton    
• In 2019-20: Has appeared in all 11 games with two starts; season-high three points, five rebounds, five steals and 26 minutes against UTPB on Dec. 19; season-high five assists against Texas Woman's on Jan. 4
• Transfer from Temple College, also played at Tyler Junior College
• Appeared in 30 games, averaged 6.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game
• From Houston, Texas, prepped at Hightower High School

#11 Angelica Wall    
• In 2019-20: Has appeared in six games; career-high five points against A&M-Commerce on January 11
• In 2018-19:  Totaled 18 minutes against TAMUC on Dec. 1; scored four points against Tarleton on Feb. 2
• Appeared in 27 total games for two years for Adams State, averaged 2.6 ppg in 2016-17
• Averaged 3.3 minutes in 2015-16 and 8.2 minutes in 2016-17

#13 Ravae Payne    
• In 2019-20: Has appeared in all 11 games with 10 starts; career-high 23 points against TAMIU on Dec 14, matched on Jan. 4 against TWU and 40 minutes against UTPB on Dec. 19
• In 2018-19: Ended the year scoring double figures in three of her last four contests, including 17 against CU on Feb. 28
• Transfer from South Plains College
• Appeared in 14 games, averaged 1.3 points on 3.5 minutes per game for SPC

#21 Jalynn Johnson    
• In 2019-20: Has appeared in all 11 games with nine starts; season-high 15 points against Chadron State on Nov. 9; grabbed a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds against UAFS on Nov 23 and matched the feat against UTPB on Dec 19
