WICHITA FALLS, Texas – A career day from senior
Kris Barnes (Fort Worth, Texas) wasn't enough to spark the Texas A&M-Kingsville football program on Saturday at Memorial Stadium as Midwestern State came away with the decision in Lone Star Conference action, 70-35.
The Javelinas (1-6, 0-4 LSC) found themselves in a 28-point deficit to the Mustangs (4-3, 2-3 LSC) early in the second quarter and could not climb out of the hole en route to the loss.
Tyrique Edwards started the scoring for the hosts on a 28-yard catch from Triston Williams following a TAMUK interception on the opening drive of the game. A 15-yard rushing score from Quinton Childs on the following MSU Texas drive set the score at 14-0 with 9:23 remaining in the first.
The Mustangs added two more scores early in the second after Edwards caught his second touchdown from Williams at the 12:29 mark before Kylan Harrison added a 40-yard dash with 9:36 remaining in the half that had the Hogs staring down a 28-0 score.
TAMUK got on the board shortly after when redshirt senior
Devin Milburn (Galveston, Texas) posted a 28-yard rushing touchdown at the 7:45 mark of the second. Redshirt sophomore
Ryan Martinez (Kingsville, Texas) cut the deficit in half on a 10-yard rush of his own with less than two minutes remaining until the break, but a quick strike from Williams to Harrison kept a three-touchdown cushion in favor of the Mustangs going into the locker rooms.

Kason Franklin (Cypress, Texas) fell on a loose ball in the end zone for the first defensive touchdown of the year for TAMUK, setting the score at 42-21 with 11:18 left in the third.
The hosts tacked on three more scores in the frame, two coming on the ground with the other through the air, before the Hogs got a 20-yard burst from Barnes near the start of the fourth.
Redshirt senior
Luis Lopez (San Diego, Texas) found the end zone for the first time since September 28 with a two-yard score at the 6:52 mark of the fourth, his seventh of the season, and the Mustangs added the final touchdown with less than a minute remaining in the game to cement the score at 70-35.
Barnes finished with 130 yards and one touchdown on 13 rushes, his career best in the Blue and Gold. The Javelina ground game finished with 237 as a group with redshirt freshman
Amonte Bowen (Donna, Texas) adding 52 yards on 11 attempts of his own.

Walker Ring (La Vernia, Texas) led the receiving corps with 64 yards on four catches, while Milburn added 41 yards on two grabs. Redshirt junior
Cade Dyal (Kerrville, Texas) finished with 166 yards on 16 completions but was picked off twice in the game.

Tre'Michael Tutt (Channelview, Texas) posted 11 stops, three solo and one for loss, as the other Hog with double-digit tackles.
The Javelinas will return to Pepsi Field at Javelina Stadium next week as they host No. 4/5 Tarleton for Homecoming sponsored by Christus Spohn Hospital Kleberg on October 26. The game will also be part of the 50th Reunion of the 1969 NAIA National Championship football team in Kingsville.
