Javelinas and Wolves set for Saturday clash

Kickoff set for 7 p.m. CT for Kingsville Community Appreciation Weekend

The Matchup    
  • Texas A&M-Kingsville is back at Pepsi Field at Javelina Stadium this week for a non-conference matchup against Western Oregon
  • The game is part of Kingsville Community Appreciation Weekend at TAMUK
  • Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT and will broadcast on the Javelina Sports Network presented by Mendoza's Pharmacy
  • The Wolves took the 2018 meeting by a score of 13-7 in Kingsville, Texas
  • In the previous contest, the Javelinas had a 3rd-and-5 from the WOU 11 yard line with less than four minutes to play, but it was the Wolves who won out as they stopped a pair of pass attempts from Casey Rosellini to secure the victory

Scouting the Wolves    
  • The Wolves will feature Ty Currie under center as he has completed 54.4% of his passes for 943 yards and nine touchdowns
  • Currie threw for 71 yards in the 2018 meeting, with one touchdown and one interception
  • Tyler Reid and Thomas Wright are his favorite targets through 2019 as the two have combined for 417 yards on 18 catches and three touchdowns
  • Reid owns 212 yards on nine catches for one score, while Wright has 205 yards on nine receptions and two touchdowns
  • Omari Land leads the ground game with 435 yards on 77 rushes alongside six touchdowns, ahead of Nico Jackson's 343 yards on 66 attempts and three scores
  • Currie rounds out the trio with 308 yards on 61 rushes and four touchdowns
  • Land ran for 77 yards in the 2018 meeting, while Currie added 53 yards
  • Nate Proctor Jr. leads the defense with 35 tackles, 16 solo, along with 3.5 for loss
  • He is followed by Tyler Wharf with 33 tackles, 18 solo, and Jaylin Parnell with 32 tackles, 17 solo
  • Proctor recorded six tackles, five solo and two sacks in the 2018 meeting
Last Time Out    
  • The Javelinas are still searching for their first LSC win following a 33-6 defeat at the hands of No. 21/20 A&M-Commerce in the Chennault Cup
  • The Lions struck first at the very end of the opening quarter with a three-yard pass from Miklo Smalls to Eric Hebert, while Jake Viquez added a 24-yard field goal early in the second
  • Cade Dyal connected with Amonte Bowen for six yards near the end of the second quarter, but the ensuing PAT was blocked and ran back for 98 yards by Alex Shillow
  • A&M-C added three touchdowns in the third quarter to pull away for the win
  • Donte Ross totaled 93 all-purpose yards as he set up the lone score with a 26-yard punt return and a 34-yard reception on the next play
  • Ross added 63 yards on four receptions to lead the receiving corps, followed by Darrian Hambrick with seven catches for 50 yards and Devin Milburn with six catches for 40 yards
  • Tre'Michael Tutt led the defense with eight tackles, while Alec Lewis and Nick Stiff both recorded a fumble recovery

Defensive Stalwart    
  • Tre'Michael Tutt's 22 tackles (12 solo) against ENMU on Sept. 28 set a new program record for most tackles in a game
  • Tutt broke the record of 21 originally set by Robert Soza against Nevada on Sept. 15, 1984, and matched by Chris Hensley against Pittsburg State on Dec. 2, 1995

Gone in a Flash    
  • Donte Ross' 48-yard punt return touchdown against ENMU on Sept. 28 was the first punt return touchdown by a Javelina in nearly 10 years
  • The last Hog to return a punt for a score was Corey Robertson on Oct. 31, 2009, against Abilene Christian
  • The last TAMUK special teams touchdown was a 100-yard kickoff return by Jordan Thomas against William Jewell on Nov. 8, 2017

Goose Egg    
  • TAMUK's 72-0 win over Sul Ross State was the first shutout for head coach Daren Wilkinson since he first took over the program ahead of the 2015 season
  • The last shutout came in the 2010 season, a 21-0 win over A&M-Commerce on Sept. 8
  • It was the 126th shutout in program history and the 10th of Sul Ross State

Lone Star Conference in the National Rankings    
  • The LSC is down to two teams in the top 25 of either the AFCA poll or D2Football.com rankings
  • Tarleton remained at No. 4 in the AFCA poll and No. 5 in the D2Football.com rankings following a 30-13 win over Angelo State
  • ASU dropped out of the D2Football.com rankings as a result of the loss but continues to receive votes in the AFCA poll
  • A&M-Commerce moved up a spot in the AFCA poll to No. 20 and remained in the No. 20 spot in the D2Football.com rankings following the win over TAMUK
  • Midwestern State fell out of both rankings following a 27-24 loss to Eastern New Mexico but continues to receive votes in the AFCA poll
  • ENMU is back receiving votes in the AFCA poll following the win over MSU Texas
  • West Texas A&M continues to receive votes after the 48-41 win over Central Washington

Go Big or Go Home    
  • The Javelinas have 35 plays over 20 yards, including two of at least 70 yards
  • Lopez's 70-yard touchdown run, along with a 79-yard kick return from Amos Coleman III, both came against Sul Ross State
  • A 48-yard punt return touchdown by Donte Ross and a 47-yard pass completion from Cade Dyal to Darrian Hambrick, both against ENMU, are the other plays above 40 yards

Driving Range    
  • TAMUK has posted 19 scoring drives so far in 2019, including three drives that lasted under a minute and two resulting in field goals
  • Two drives that were under 60 seconds ended on a rushing touchdown courtesy of Luis Lopez, while the other ended in a pass from Cade Dyal to Amonte Bowen
  • The Hogs have had five scoring drives longer than four minutes, all lasting at least eight plays, three of which ended on a passing touchdown, another one that ended on a rushing touchdown and the final which resulted in a 24-yard field goal by Romario Perez
  • Four scoring drives lasted at least 10 plays
  • The longest scoring drive took 4:49 off the clock against Sul Ross State on September 14 and ended with a four-yard rushing score from Amonte Bowen
