KINGSVILLE, Texas – For the second straight start, Preston Plovanich threw up nothing but zeroes, tossing a complete game shutout and that performance spurred the Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team to a 2-0 win over the Southwest Baptist Bearcats at Nolan Ryan Field on Friday afternoon in Kingsville, Texas.

The Javelinas record remains unblemished at 4-0 and Lubbock Christian drops to 3-2.

The only run support Plovanich (2-0) would need came in the first inning. Dylan Hutcheson began the frame with a two-bagger off Carter Newton (0-1) and scored on a single by Pablo Hernandez. After Hernandez stole second, Austin Ingraham poked a hit through the left side and Hernandez raced around for TAMUK's second run.

The Bearcats, meanwhile, were completely baffled by the Hogs' junior flamethrower. Plovanich allowed just four hits while walking one and the 11 strikeouts he racked up were a new career-high. Five times during his outing, Plovanich retired the side in order.

The best chance for Southwest Baptist to get on the board came in the top of the eighth when Tyler Mathys singled and Andrew Feist drew a walk with one out, but Plovanich set down the next two hitters on strikes to strand both runners on. Hunter Hisky doubled with one out in the ninth, but Plovanich struck the last two batters to clinch the win. The Santa Fe, Texas native has started the season with 16 consecutive scoreless innings.
