Box Score HOUSTON, Texas – An nine-run seventh inning and five strong frames from Kyle Craft allowed the Texas A&M-Kingsville baseball team to bury the Henderson State Reddies, 11-0, on Sunday at Minute Maid Park in Houston.
For the second straight year, the Hogs leave Houston with a perfect record after winning all three of their games at the 2018 Houston Winter Invitational. Henderson State falls to 1-2.
Pablo Hernandez staked the Javs to an early 1-0 lead by blasting a 2-0 pitch from Zach Eschberger (0-1) into the Crawford boxes in left field for his first home run of the season.
Craft's first jam came in the bottom of the second, when the Reddies put runners at the corners with one out, but consecutive strikeouts enabled the senior to keep Henderson State off the scoreboard. One inning later, the senior received help from his defense. With two outs, Joe Myers sent a rocket into the left-center field gap, but a leaping grab by Austin Ingraham, who held on as he crashed into the well, ended the frame. In the fourth, Levi Zents started an around-the-horn double play to end a scoring opportunity for the home side and keep the Javelina lead intact.
TAMUK increased its lead to 2-0 in the fifth when, following a single by Alex Gonzalez and a hit batter, Manny Loredo grounded a hit through the right side of the infield and Gonzalez raced around from second.
Craft (1-0) completed his day with a scoreless fifth after allowing no runs on two hits to go with three walks and two strikeouts.
In the seventh, the Hogs took advantage of a slew of free passes to build in insurmountable lead. Consecutive walks to Gonzalez, Dylan Hutcheson and Loredo packed the sacks for Christian Caudle, who was plunked to force in a run. Hernandez then reached on an error, allowing Hutcheson to score his team's fourth run. Up next was Ingraham, who lined the first pitch he saw into the left field corner, clearing the bases to make the score 7-0. After another hit batter and a line out, Kohl Ullman doubled off the left field wall to bring in two more. Two batters later, a Hutcheson single and an error pushed across a pair to complete a nine-run rally for the Hogs.
Lee May Gonzalez relieved Craft in the sixth and retired five batters without breaking a sweat. Jarred Taylor came in to get the game's final out in the seventh.
