Box Score LAWTON, Okla. – Cris Boleware racked up 16 points while Trey Sumpter finished with 13 and 11 rebounds, but the Texas A&M-Kingsville men's basketball team dropped a 67-58 decision to the Cameron Aggies on Saturday night at Aggie Gym in Lawton, Okla.
FIRST HALF
The Aggies started the game by scoring the first six points before the Javelinas responded with a Sumpter jumper. Chris Royal came back with a layup before Boleware hit a trey with 9:20 on clock and he added another three 45 seconds later to tie the game at eight. Buckets by each team followed and Jordan Lewis provided the Aggies with a three point edge by hitting his first triple of the day. Johann Tate then hit from beyond the arc, but five Javelina points brought the visitors to within one. Cameron moved back ahead by five before more than four minutes of scoreless basketball brought the game close to halftime. With five seconds left, Jacolby Harris sank two foul shots, but Royal got both points back with a buzzer-beating layup and score read 22-17 after 20 minutes.
SECOND HALF
Sumpter quickly hit a three to bring TAMUK to within two, but layups by Elish Benjamin and Jalen Nicholas gave Cameron a 26-20 lead. After a free throw by Boleware, each side score once and a bucket by J.V. Long gave the home squad a seven point edge that moved to 10 thanks to a Delano Jones trey.
Harris cut the deficit to seven with a three point play and both teams added three to their total, making the score 36-29. Another exchange of baskets kept the sides seven points apart, but free throws by Royal and Long pushed the lead to 10 with less than 10 minutes remaining.
Cameron stretched their lead to 13 with 6:30 remaining before a 6-0 spurt cut TAMUK's deficit to seven. With 3:22 on the clock, a jumper by Derrick Byrd and consecutive layups by Sumpter moved the visitors to within three, but the Aggies were able to withstand the charge. Foul shots and a jumper by Tyler Williams increased their lead to seven. The Javelinas were twice able to move within two possessions, but could not get any closer.
