Rematch with Dustdevils on the docket for Javelinas

Tip off set for 6 p.m. CT on Monday in Laredo, Texas

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The month-long road swing for the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball program continues Monday, December 17, as the Javelinas will make the trek west to Laredo, Texas, for the second half of a home-and-home matchup against Texas A&M International.

TAMUK is in the midst of a seven-game road swing after dropping the first four matchups on the road to St. Edwards, No. RV Tarleton, A&M-Commerce and No. 21 Angelo State.

The brief reprieve from Lone Star Conference play will take the Blue and Gold to Laredo against TAMIU followed by an exhibition matchup against UTSA on December 30 and finished off with a regional rematch against St. Mary's (TX) to tip off the New Year on January 2.

The Javelinas last faced the Dustdevils on November 20 in the SPEC where juniors Brynae Thompson (Houston, Texas) and Danielle Meador (Corpus Christi, Texas) teamed up with senior Cloe Lane (Blue Springs, Mo.) for 55 points en route to an 80-69 final favoring the Blue and Gold.

Thompson finished with 24 points on a 9-for-16 clip from the field, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc, coupled with seven rebounds and three steals. Meador added 19 points on a 7-for-12 mark, sinking all five of her shots from the charity stripe, while Lane rounded out the trio with 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists and one block.

TAMUK held an even count with TAMIU early in the opening quarter before pulling away late in the frame and coasting to a 44-34 lead at halftime. The Javelinas matched the Dustdevils through the remainder of the contest in the second half on the way to the 11-point win.

The Blue and Gold is looking to snap a four-game skid after suffering a 75-43 loss to the Rambelles on December 6 to close out the first week of conference play. Thompson led all scorers in the contest as she put away 20 on 7-for-13 shooting.

On the year, the Houston native leads the Javelinas with a 13.1 scoring average through eight games on a .455 clip, adding 2.8 rebounds on 26.9 minutes per game. Lane is the other member of the Blue and Gold to average more than eight points per game as she currently has 8.8 points and 5.1 rebounds on 27.5 minutes per contest.

TAMIU is currently 0-10 on the year after suffering a similar defeat to Angelo State back on December 11. Vanessa Oyola and Alliyah Bryant led the Dustdevils with 12 and 10 points in the game, respectively.

Tantashea Giger remains the leading scorer for TAMIU, averaging 12.0 on a .360 clip through 29.4 minutes per game, but has only see action in seven contests on the year and last saw the court on November 24 against Regis.

Tip off is set for 6 p.m. CT in the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building in Laredo, Texas.
