Dyal, Thomas Connect for 99-yard Touchdown in 40-14 Defeat

Javelinas Rack Up Over 500 yards of Offense in Loss

Box Score SAN ANGELO, Texas – Jordan Thomas and Cade Dyal hooked up for a school record 99-yard touchdown and the Texas A&M-Kingsville football team (1-4) rolled up 519 total yards, but dropped a 40-14 decision to the Angelo State Rams (3-2) on Saturday night at LeGrand Stadium at First Community Credit Union Field in San Angelo, Texas.

The Javelinas totaled 334 yards through the air with Thomas accounting for 117 of those on four receptions. Aaron Dilworth added 75 yards and a score on five grabs.

On the ground, coach Daren Wilkinson's offense tallied 185 yards with Jeff Carr becoming the third member of the school's backfield to top 100 yards rushing in a game. The junior ran for 104 on 20 carries.

FIRST QUARTER
Angelo State started the scoring on their very first drive, moving 80 yards in nine plays for the game's first touchdown. After three short completions from Charlie Rotherham put the Rams at their own 46, the signal caller connected with Lawson Ayo for a 54-yard touchdown and a seven-point advantage.

The response from the Javelins came swiftly in the form of an 11-play, 60-yard march to tie the score. Completions to Nico Brown for 11 yards and Kyle Plum for 15 helped put the Hogs in enemy territory, where they were faced with a fourth-and-4. Carr converted the fourth down with a 10-yard gallop and on the next play, Dyal hit Dilworth from 11 yards out for the TD that evened things at seven.

After a stop by Kingsville's defense, ASU pinned the visitors at their own 1-yard line, but the Hogs wouldn't have their backs against the wall for long. Dyal let fly with a deep ball to Thomas, who made the catch in stride at the 30 and sprinted the rest of the way for a 99-yard touchdown to put his team up by seven.

SECOND QUARTER
The Rams were able to cut into the deficit when they turned a turnover into points midway through the second quarter. ASU recovered a fumble by Dyal at the Javelina 27, but could only move 16 yards on five snaps. Connor Flanigan salvaged something from the opportunity with a 28-yard field goal. Kingsville had a chance to answer late in the period, moving from their own four to the home team's 14, but a penalty backed them up and Julio De La Garza missed a 38-yard field goal, sending the teams into the locker room at 14-10.

THIRD QUARTER
Angelo State got the first scoring opportunity of the second half when Justin Jackson picked off Dyal at the TAMUK 41, but Kingsville's defense once again held fast. Another Flanigan field goal, this one from 37 yards, put the teams just one point apart. After a trio of punts, the Rams' offense received the ball on their own 31 and drove 69 yards to the go-ahead score. Third down completions to Donovan Thompson and Ayo kept the drive alive and Josh Stevens finished it with a 24-yard burst into the end zone.

Brown sparked the visitors with a 42-yard catch and run to the ASU 40, but four plays later, Dyal was intercepted in the end zone by Gilbert Gildersleeve and the hosts went to work on offense again. This time, they traveled 80 yards on five plays to paydirt. Rotherham hit Thompson for 15, Tyler Ahrens for 31 and Tate Kennedy for 30 yards and the score that upped the margin to 26-14.

FOURTH QUARTER
Kingsville's offense proceeded to move the ball once again, driving across midfield to the 26, where they faced a fourth-and-one. Pressured from his blindside, Dyal let loose with a pass for Thomas that fell incomplete and TAMUK turned the ball over on downs. The Rams offense continued to hit on all cylinders, as they added seven more to their lead, with Stevens scoring his second TD, this one from 19 yards. A final touchdown run by Tyrese Nathan closed out the scoring.

Ahead for the Javelinas is their third home game of the season. They will host West Texas A&M at Javelina Stadium on Oct. 7th with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m on Pueblo Tires and Service Family Weekend.
