PORTALES, N.M. – In what was a crazy opening day for volleyball in the Lone Star Conference, Texas A&M University-Kingsville (7-5, 0-1 LSC) came up short in Greyhound Arena against Eastern New Mexico University (3-7, 1-1 LSC) Friday night. Â

Defensively, the Javelinas set the tone with nine blocks. However, it was the offense that struggled in the four-set loss as they hit .081 from the floor. The Greyhounds tallied a .168 attack percentage, racked up 61 digs, and recorded four service aces. ENMU now leads the all-time series 33-23 and post an 18-8 record against TAMUK on their home floor.Â

Haley Hutchinson, and
Shelby Sheets each paced the club with eight kills. Hutchinson was efficient in the middle with a match-high .417 hitting percentage and tied Wick with four blocks. Wick had a team-high of two aces.
Casey Klobedans had a full stat line with 34 assists, five digs, two blocks, two kills and one ace, while libero
Jasmine Jacinto and sophomore
Kelby Sprinkles accounted for 14 and ten digs, respectively. Â

Sarah Tuioti-Mariner turned in a match-high 17 kills and nine digs for Eastern, followed by Brooklyn Biel and Jasmine Gannon who split 18 kills evenly.Â
