KINGSVILLE, Texas – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (6-4) finally returns to the Gil E. Steinke Physical Education Center- Hampton Inn Court and will match up against St. Mary's University (3-5) on Tuesday, September 12 before beginning Lone Star Conference play this weekend.
The Javelinas went 3-3 last week, highlighted by a 3-1 outing at the at the New Victorian Inn and Suites Runza Fall Classic hosted by No. 5 Nebraska-Kearney. In that tournament,
Krystal Faison and
Jasmine Jacinto stood out and was selected to the UNK Volleyball All-Tournament Team. Faison turned in 2.67 kills per set and 4.50 digs per set, serving as a team-high. Jacinto tailed Faison with 4.33 digs per set.
Lexi Wick led the way with a .420 attack percentage on 33 total kills and five service aces.
Gabby Atchley totaled 27 kills and eight blocks, while
Haley Hutchinson owned the net with a team-best 1.33 blocks per set (16 blocks) to go along with her 26 kills.
The Rattlers will take on a member of the LSC for the third time this season. STMU topped UT Permian Basin in straight sets before being swept by West Texas A&M in the first weekend of competition. Overall this season, St. Mary's has an attack percentage of .150, while their opponents hit an average of .230.
Channing Hankins leads the team with a .208 hitting percentage and averages 3.58 kills per set. Behind her is team captain Mandee Eberle who sits at 2.38 kills per set and Tarine Grace with 2.23 kills per set and 0.65 blocks per set. Grace trails team leader Jaycie Pluenneke who averages 0.82 blocks per set. Setter Bree Perry conducts the offense with 8.58 assists per sets and has a team-high of ten service aces.
