ODESSA, Texas (Baseball) – The first place #RV Texas A&M University-Kingsville Javelinas (25-10, 10-2 LSC) head to Roden Field for a four-game Lone Star Conference set at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin (8-29, 1-11 LSC) April 21-23. The opener begins at 2 p.m. with a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday. The series finale will be Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Javelinas are currently two games up in the win column on nationally-ranked West Texas A&M University and Angelo State University.
Earlier this week, A&M-Kingsville defeated Texas A&M International University 4-3 for its fifth consecutive victory. Prior to Tuesday's game,
Kohl Ullman was named LSC Hitter of the Week for going 7-of-13 in the sweep of Eastern New Mexico University.
ABOUT THE HOGS
Levi Zents leads the conference with a .446 batting average and .575 on-base percentage.
Christian Caudle follows with a .380 batting average and .540 OBP, and leads the club with seven stolen bases.
Pablo Hernandez (.358, 15 doubles, 33 RBI),
Hunter Perkins (.319, three home runs),
Jimmy Roche (.301, three home runs, 28 RBI) and Ullman (.395, seven doubles) are over the .300 clip. Shortstop
Alex Gonzalez is averaging .293 with 15 RBI.
Seth Hubert (7-1) has a 2.28 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 55.1 innings.
Isaiah Lybarger (4-2, 3.64 ERA, 42 innings),
Preston Plovanich (5-1, 4.71 ERA, three complete games) and
Zach Wilson (3-2, 3.52 ERA, 35 punchouts in 38.1 innings) compile the rotation. On the backend of the bullpen are
Trey Taylor (10 strikeouts in 11.0 innings),
Jako Kelm (four saves in 13 appearances),
Sebi Palacios (1-0, 3.86 ERA) and
Tyler Crouch (15 strikeouts in 11.2 innings).
LAST TIME THEY MET
Hernandez walked off in style and Plovanich tossed a complete game in A&M-Kingsville's 3-2 game one victory over the Falcons March 3. In game two, Wilson struck out 10 in a 6-0 shutout win.
