Dyal Shines as Javelinas Race Past Falcons, 47-21

Quarterback Throws for 367 yards, Three Touchdowns

Box Score ODESSA, Texas – Cade Dyal torched the UT Permian Basin defense for 367 yards and three touchdowns in leading the Texas A&M-Kingsville football team to a 47-21 victory over the Falcons on Saturday night at Ratliff Stadium in Odessa, Texas.

The Javelina offense was by no means a one man band, as Jordan Thomas topped 100 yards receiving for the third straight week. The senior hauled in six throws for 121 yards and added two scores. Nick Pelrean scored twice on the ground and rushed for 94 yards.

On defense, the Hogs totaled six sacks, two of them coming courtesy of Brandon Jones. Caleb Valentine contributed a sack and two tackles for loss. David Brown II's unit allowed just 11 yards rushing, which means they've given up only 23 yards on the ground the last two weeks.

FIRST QUARTER

The TAMUK offense took over at midfield on their first possession and moved to the game's first score. In nine plays, they traveled 28 yards to the 22 and Julio De La Garza put the first points on the board with a 40-yard field goal.

The Falcons got the ball back on their own 19, but a penalty pushed them back to the nine. On the next play, quarterback Michael Myers dropped back into his own end zone and was buried by Valentine for a safety. The ensuing free kick was returned 56 yards by Keith Whitely to the UTPB 37 and the Hogs then drove to the game's first touchdown, a three-yard plunge by Jeff Carr.

SECOND QUARTER
On the fourth possession of the second quarter, TAMUK got the ball on its own 15 and Dyal went to work. He hit Thomas for 27 on 3rd-and-5, which also came with a 15-yard penalty against UTPB, and Whitely for 25 on 3rd-and-2 to the Falcons six-yard-line. Pelrean took it in on the next play and the P.A.T. made the score 19-0.

After the Javelina defense forced a turnover on downs on the next drive, Dyal and the offense took possession in enemy territory at the 49. The native of Kerrville, Texas completed passes on three consecutive plays, the last one to Thomas, who stepped between two defenders at the 20 and was off to the end zone for his team's third touchdown, this one covering 27 yards.

The best scoring opportunity for the Falcons in the first half came after a 69-yard completion from Myers to Kristian Brown put them at the Kingsville 15. From there however, Myers was sacked twice, first by Will Petit and DeMarcus Spurlock and again by Braedon Robinson. Bailey Giffen's fourth-down field goal attempt hit the upright and the score at the half was 26-0. The TAMUK defense held their hosts to negative yards rushing in the first half and Robinson also collected an interception.

THIRD QUARTER

The Hogs continued padding their lead after halftime. They took the second half kickoff and, on the strength of a Dyal-to-Pelrean completion and two personal foul penalties courtesy of the home team, moved from their 20 to their opponent's 35. On the drive's fourth play, Pelrean took a pitch to the left and followed his blockers to paydirt for his second score of the night and a 33-point advantage for the visitors.

UT Permian Basin got on the scoreboard later in the period, as Kameron Mathis entered at quarterback and led them 63 yards in five plays to their first TD, but Kingsville's answer came less than two minutes later. A play-fake by Dyal fooled the Falcons and Marcus Younger slipped out of the backfield uncovered, gathered in a perfect pass and dashed across the goal line to complete a 47-yard pass play and make the score 40-7.

Mathis and UTPB refused to go quietly, though. They quickly moved the ball 83 yard in eight plays and the sophomore signal caller fired his second touchdown pass to Courtney McMaryion late in the period.

FOURTH QUARTER
Midway through the final quarter, Mathis hit Mitchell Leonard from eight yards out for his third touchdown pass, bringing his team to within 19, but a quick response by Dyal and Thomas squashed any comeback hopes the Falcons may have had. Thomas caught a quick pass along the right sideline, shed a pair of tackles and galloped the rest of the way on a 55-yard scoring play that would stand as the final points of the night.

The Hogs will have a chance to reach .500 when they take the field at Javelina Stadium on Oct. 21st for the Wells Fargo Bank Homecoming game against Tarleton State. The scheduled kickoff time is 7 p.m.
