GAMES 25-28: First Place Baseball Hosts Tarleton State

Texas A&M-Kingsville battles Texans in four-game series



KINGSVILLE, Texas (Baseball) –
 No. t-25 Texas A&M University-Kingsville (17-7, 8-4 LSC) returns to Nolan Ryan Field for its second Lone Star Conference home series as the Javelinas host Tarleton State University (11-13, 5-7 LSC) for two games March 25, beginning at 3 p.m. and two games Saturday at 1 and 4 p.m.
 
Live stats will be available for all four games and a video feed can be accessed for Friday's doubleheader.
 
The Javelinas are coming off a 14-6 victory at Texas A&M International University. In the win, Miles Holcomb finished with two three-run home runs and Jimmy Roche and Pablo Hernandez each blasted solo shots.
 
About the Hogs
Hernandez leads the team with five long balls and Ruben Almaguer has driven in a team best 28 RBI. Hayden Vesely has reached base safely in 12 consecutive ballgames and Christian Caudle has reached safely in 10 straight contests. On the year, Dalton Perry leads the team in hitting at .392 with three home runs, 13 RBI and five stolen bases. Almaguer is batting .367 with a home run and 11 doubles, Vesely is at .360 with eight doubles, five triples, two home runs, 20 RBI and six stolen bases and Caudle is batting .358 with 11 RBI.
 
Zach Smith has a team best 10 stolen bases and provides a .329 batting clip with a home run and 12 RBI and Roche is at .325 with three home runs and 16 RBI.
 
Sebi Palacios (1-0, 2.59 ERA) has 29 strikeouts in 24.1 innings. Shane Veeder is 4-1 with a 3.24 ERA. In 12 appearances out of the bullpen, Jako Kelm has compiled 19 strikeouts in 22.2 innings and is 2-2 with a 2.78 ERA. Vesely has 28 punchouts in 21.2 innings and Preston Plovanich is coming off a 6-0 shutout victory at Eastern New Mexico University.
 
Lone Star Conference Play
In conference play, Caudle is batting a team and league best .462 with Vesely (.357, six doubles, two triples, four stolen bases), Smith (.333, nine stolen bases), Roche (.333, two home runs, 11 RBI), Holcomb (.320) and Almaguer (.313, 15 RBI) are all hitting over .300.
 
Plovanichis 1-0 with a 1.32 ERA in three conference appearances. Vesely has two saves in LSC play and Palacios is 1-0 with 15 strikeouts in 12.1 innings.
 
The Javelinas are tied for first in the Lone Star Conference with an 8-4 mark. Angelo State University and West Texas A&M University each have eight wins on the year.
 
About the Texans
Tarleton State is led by Alec Humphreys' .362 batting average, 10 doubles and 20 RBI. Landon Thompson is hitting .328 with three home runs and Landon Merka is at .302 with 18 RBI. On the bump, Trevor Renfro is 4-1 in seven starts with a 3.29 ERA and a complete game. In seven appearances (five starts), Jacob French has a 2-1 record with a 3.86 ERA.
 
All-Time
The Javelinas lead the all-time series 60-57 and in fact, their win in the regular season finale last season clinched the back-to-back Lone Star Conference championship for the Hogs. Last season, Texas A&M-Kingsville and Tarleton State split the series meetings (4-4) with the Texans take the last matchup during the 2015 Lone Star Conference Baseball Tournament at Nolan Ryan Field.
