Notes to Watch
Senior quarterback
Myles Carr is just one passing touchdown away from tying the single season school record set in 2001 by
Abel Gonzalez (24). This season, Carr has tossed 23 TDs after throwing 21 in 2015. The Arcadia, Calif. native is also atop the career charts in completion percentage at just over 60 percent.
Also in the top 10 in their respective categories are
Jordan Thomas (career receptions and yards),
Brandon Jones and
Braedon Robinson (career tackles for a loss) and
Julio De la Garza (career and season PATs, field goals and kickoff average).
The Javelinas have the longest active win streak in the Lone Star Conference with four.
No stranger to the Mustangs, head coach
Daren Wilkinson and his staff is familiar with WNMU having joined the Hogs from Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference program and 2014 NCAA Division II National Champion Colorado State University-Pueblo. The Mustangs left the RMAC in July 2016 to join the LSC.
Bowl Watch
Should the Javelinas miss the NCAA South Central Regional tournament, the LSC has had teams appear in the Heart of Dallas or the Live United Texarkana Bowl in recent years, with Eastern New Mexico and Texas A&M University-Commerce. Both games are scheduled for Dec. 3.
Team of the Month
Hero Sports chose Texas A&M-Kingsville as the team of the month in Super Region Four and the Javelinas are currently leading the poll as the national team of the month. Voting continues until 1 p.m. CT today. Hero Sports has the Javelinas ranked No. 23 in its national poll and four Hogs have won player of the week in 2016.
LSC Honors
This season, the Blue and Gold collected four weekly conference nods – Carr after leading the Hogs to a season opening win at the University of the Incarnate Word, Jones after tallying 6.5 tackles for loss versus the University of the Permian Basin,
Alex Kuyinu after 4.0 sacks in the win at Tarleton State University and
Luis Lopez, who won this week's LSC Offensive Player of the Week award after rushing for 92 yards and two scores on just 10 carries.
Bring it Back to the Championship Season
The only time the Hogs and Mustangs met came in 1976, a year Javelina faithful cherish as the Hogs went on to win the NAIA National Championship. In the game, Texas A&I defeated Western, 63-2, in Kingsville.
Senior Night
Prior to kickoff, the Javelinas will honor seniors competing in the final home games of their collegiate careers. Nineteen seniors will be competing in their final home contest.
Tailgate Area
A 9 a.m. Diabetes Community Walk of Kleberg County begins in front of the Memorial Student Union Building. Following the walk, there will be free diabetes testing in the tailgate area from 1-5 p.m. The first 200 fans to get tested will receive a free t-shirt.
Next Up
Following the home finale, the regular season concludes at Oklahoma Panhandle State University next Saturday at 1 p.m. The Aggies are in their first and only season as a football member of the LSC as OPSU announced earlier this season that they would drop down to NAIA at season's end.
