KINGSVILLE, Texas (Men's Basketball) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (4-2) will travel to Alamo City for the first of two games this season against St. Mary's University (2-4) Tuesday, November 29 in the Bill Greehey Arena at 7:30 p.m.

Early in the 2016-17 season, the Javelinas have been backed by strong defensive play. Although they average 68.5 points per game, TAMUK holds its opponents to 63.7 points per game, ranking fourth in the Lone Star Conference. They are second in the league with 30 total blocks and also force 20.2 turnovers per contests, winning the turnover margin by +4.7. The Hogs also get stronger as the game progresses, outscoring their opponents by 43 points in the second half this season.Â
Duan Wright leads the club with 13 PPG followed by Trey Sumpter who scores 12.8 per game. Both athletes sit 14th and 15th in the conference in scoring, respectively, and ties with 5.2 rebounds per game. Caelan Neal drops 9.2 PPG and leads the team with 11 steals to help lead the team defensively. Robert Stevenson holds the torch in the interior on both sides of the floor. The sophomore ranks fourth in the LSC with 11 total blocks and shoots 70% from the floor. Â
The Rattlers will play their fifth of six consecutive games against a LSC member. As of now, they have picked up a couple of wins against Eastern New Mexico in their home opener and then ranked No. 20 Midwestern State, but loss to Cameron and most recently No. 16 Angelo State. StMU averages 71 points as a unit and shoots 45% from the floor and 35% from three-point range. Four of St. Mary's starters plus one teammate average double-digit scoring anchored by Yanni Wetzell who leads the way with 14.3 PPG, 7.3 rebounds per game, six total blocks and has been efficient from beyond the arc shooting 75%. Will Ferguson and Freddie Williams average 12 points per game and Ferguson leads the team with 28 helpers and six steals. Skylar Brooks has 10 PPG as well as sixth man A.J. McGlown.Â
The Hogs and Rattlers have split the season series for the past two years with both clubs winning the game on their home floor.
