WICHITA FALLS, Texas (Women's Basketball) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (5-9, 0-4 LSC) searches for its first Lone Star Conference victory of the season in crucial back-to-back midweek affairs, beginning at Midwestern State University (3-12, 2-3 LSC) on Jan. 20 at 5:30 p.m. at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. The following day, the Javelinas will battle #RV Texas Woman's University (15-3, 5-1 LSC) at 7 p.m. at the Kitty Magee Arena.
Kaylin Roher averages 11.4 points per game, good for seventh in the LSC, and her 2.2 three-pointers per game are third most in the conference. Shooting 34.8 percent from beyond-the-arc, Roher ranks fourth in three-point percentage.
Kyra Bauer has moved back into the starting five and is posting 7.7 points per contest, followed by
Jamesha Wade and
TaSheena Moore at 7.6 points per game. Wade is dishing out a team-high 2.4 dimes per game and
Joslyn Smith pulls down 4.9 rebounds.
Scouting the MustangsMidwestern State is tied for fifth in the LSC with a 2-3 mark in conference play. Jennifer Sissel is scoring 12.6 points per game and adds 7.2 rebounds, with Whitney Taylor following at 10.4 points and 5.1 rebounds.
Midwestern State leads the all-time series 23-16 after taking both matchups in 2014-15. The Mustang 2015-16 schedule was ranked the toughest in NCAA Division II with opponents combining for a 155-79 mark (courtesy of Blake Barington, MSU Athletic Communications).
Scouting the PioneersCurrently receiving votes in the D2 Media Poll courtesy of D2SIDA, Texas Woman's is 15-3 overall and 5-1 in LSC play. The lone loss came at the hands of then No. 1 West Texas A&M, but the Pioneers have since rebounded, taking back-to-back matchups versus A&M-Commerce and Tarleton State.
TWU is 9-3 inside Kitty Magee Arena, and the Pioneers took both matchups against the Hogs last season. Erin Maxwell leads the club with 12.6 points and 8.8 rebounds and 3.44 blocks per game, second most in Division II. Her 62 total blocks are the most in the nation.
As a team, the Pioneers lead the conference in blocked shots per game at 5.89 and the defense is one of the best in the country, limiting opponents to 31.8 field goal percentage, second best mark in DII and 21.5 percent from behind-the-arc, topping the charts.
