KINGSVILLE, Texas – After inclement weather forced a change to their schedule, the Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team (7-12) returns to action when they make the trip to San Antonio, Texas to face No. 9 St. Mary's (18-7) on Thursday. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. at the Softball Stadium.
All-Time Series vs StMUSt. Mary's is 59-23 all-time against TAMUK following a 5-3 victory at the Southeastern Regional Invitational back on February 14. In San Antonio, Texas, the Blue and Gold are 8-29 with their last win coming on April 1, 2014 by the score of 9-4.
Scouting Texas A&M-KingsvilleContinuing to pace the team in hitting with a .345 average and nine RBI is
Loren Donaldson. She has also bashed six doubles and two home runs.
Rachael Longoria has scored eight times and is hitting .326. Pacing the squad with three homers is
Valerie Ramirez while
Haley Boyett has two dingers. Second on the squad with eight RBI are
Jaeleen Castro and Ramirez.
Boyett continues to have a team-high five stolen bases. With two swipes on the year are
Stephanie Lugo, Castro and Ramirez.
Staff ace
Karri Smith with a 3-6 record, 3.75 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 61.2 innings. She has completed all nine games that she has started while also making two relief appearances.
Carlie Clark's 28 strikeouts pace the squad and she is 2-3 with a 6.15 ERA in 27.1 frames. Making four starts has been
Bella Rosas (2-3, 4.07 ERA) while completing two of them with one shutout.
Scouting St. Mary'sVianna Gutierrez paces the Rattlers in batting average (.465), home runs (4) and RBI (22). Nicole Sardelich is hitting .419 and has scored a team-high 30 times while mashing two homers and plating 15. Driving in 20 more runs this season has been Haley Richter (22) and Taylor Vidrine (20). Also hitting multiple dingers this year are Sydney Wellmann (2), Richter (2) and Vidrine (3).
On the base path, StMU is 40-for-47 on the season swiping bags with Vidrine leading the way with 14 steals. Going 8-for-9 in steal attempts is LeeAnn Campos while appearing primarily as a pinch runner.
In the circle, Hope Russell comes in with a staff-low 1.62 ERA in 69.0 innings. She is 8-4 with five complete games and 27 strikeouts. Gutierrez also has a sub-2.00 ERA at 1.72 while tossing a team-high 77.1 innings. For the season, she is 10-3 with seven complete games in nine starts and 14 appearances.
Coming in for seven games in relief is Veronica Garcia while Kristi Rangel has pitched in five games. Both have thrown 9.1 frames with Garcia striking out six and Rangel recording four.
