GAME 21: @JavelinaMBB Take on Surprising Buffs Saturday

West Texas A&M defeated Texas A&M-Kingsville in their previous matchup, 71-52, on Jan. 17

CANYON, Texas (Men's Basketball) – Fresh off a dominating Lone Star Conference victory, Texas A&M University-Kingsville (7-13, 2-6 LSC) hits the road looking to redeem itself versus West Texas A&M University (13-9, 3-5 LSC) on Feb. 7 at 4 p.m. at the First United Bank Center.

Live stats, audio and video will be available and can be accessed by visiting the men's basketball schedule page on JavelinaAthletics.com, the official home of Texas A&M-Kingsville athletics.

Last Time Out
If the opening minute was any indication of the second half of LSC play, the Javelinas will be a force to be reckoned. Off a steal by Jamar Goodwin, Duan Wright went sailing past a Greyhound defender for a two-on-one dunk, making a case for ESPN Sportscenter's Top 10 Plays.

The play was a precursor to a big first half as Texas A&M University-Kingsville (7-13, 2-6 LSC) cruised to a 83-52 win over Eastern New Mexico University (7-14, 0-8 LSC) on Wednesday evening at Gil H. Steinke Physical Education Center-Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.

A 16-0 run in the middle of the first half blew the game open, giving the Javelinas a 28-12 lead as the team registered six steals in 10 minutes.

The win gives the Javelinas their first home conference victory since Feb. 1, 2014 versus Angelo State University.

Five players reached double figures as Jordan Jahr scored 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting and added seven rebounds, four steals and three assists. West went 6-of-8 for 15 points and Thomas recorded 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. The Hogs held the Greyhounds to 19 percent shooting the second half and 25.5 percent overall.

Tale of the Tape
Picked to finish last in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll, West Texas A&M has surprised many with a 3-5 record in conference play. The Buffs nearly upset No. 7 Angelo State University on Wednesday, but the Rams downed WT, 77-68. Against the Javelinas in their first matchup this season (Jan. 17), the Buffs drained triples all afternoon, shooting 50 percent from three-point range en route to a 71-52 win over TAMUK. Led by David Chavlovich, the Buffs feature four players in double figures, including senior Tez Dumars, who moved into the top 10 on the all-time West Texas A&M scoring list in Wednesday's loss to Angelo State.

Scouting the Buffs
Playing one of the fastest tempos in the league, the Buffs lead the LSC in free throw attempts and makes, field goals and three-point field goals. WT's 9.6 three-pointers per contest rank 18th in the nation and their attempts are eighth most in Division II. Chavlovich's 3.3 attempts/game from long distance ranks among the top 10 in the country and Antjuan Bell's tenacity on the offensive glass provides many second chance opportunities for the Buffs as Bell ranks 18th in DII with 3.45 offensive rebounds per contest.

Scouting the Javelinas
Troy Jones ranks ninth in NCAA Division II in field-goal percentage, shooting an impressive 65.0 percent from the floor. As a team, the Javelinas lead the conference in free throw percentage (72.3). Duan Wright is on a defensive tear as of late, swatting away six shots in his previous two contests and Jamar Goodwin is coming off a 10-point, five-assist performance to lead the shorthanded Hogs to a victory over the Greyhounds.
