KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team (0-20, 0-10 LSC) plays two road games on consecutive days against Texas Woman's (12-10, 5-6 LSC) and Texas A&M-Commerce (11-9, 5-5 LSC). The Javelinas will take on the Pioneers at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in Kitty Magee Arena followed by Thursday's contest at 5:30 p.m. in the Field House against the Lions.
Micah Weaver is coming of a week in which she averaged a team best 16.0 ppg to increase her average on the season to 11.3. She paces the Blue and Gold with a 46.4 field goal percentage while adding 4.0 rpg and 1.5 apg.
A team best 6.3 rpg is being grabbed by
Lauren Jay while frontcourt mate
Kyra Bauer is second at 4.7 boards a contest. Jay also enters the game with a team-high 29 steals and is second with 13 blocks.
Ope Ibrahim paces the squad with her 14 rejections.
TAMUK leads the all-time series with TWU 28-25 but have lost four straight. The Javelinas last win came on Feb. 9, 2013 in Denton, Texas by the score of 59-49.
Emily Spector leads the Pioneers in scoring (11.8) and rebounding (6.3). She also has 23 steals and 18 blocks on the year. Also scoring in double-figures is Kenesha Saygo at 10.8 a contest.
Erin Maxwell has blocked a team best 39 shots and has retrieved 6.0 rpg in 18 games this season. Ashley Salazar has 49 swipes and is one of two players (Spector) to start all 22 games.
TAMUC comes in with a slight 31-29 advantage over the Blue and Gold all-time. Since the Lone Star Conference went to a round-robin format in the regular season, one of the squads has swept the season series. The Javelinas did so last season and in the 2011-12 campaign while the Lions took both contests in 2012-13.
La'Tisha Hearne is the only TAMUC player with a double-digit scoring average (10.6). She also is grabbing a team best 7.8 rpg.
Gabby Scott has put up 9.4 ppg in 18 contests with 29 made-three-pointers. Dishing out 4.1 apg, the second most in the conference and scoring 9.0 ppg is Princess Davis. Abigail Leaupepe-Tele is second on the squad in rebounding (6.4) despite playing only 17.0 mpg.
