Match 24-25: @JavelinaVB Starts LSC Second Half on the Road

Javelinas are currently fourth in the league standings


 
KINGSVILLE, Texas – The second half of the Lone Star Conference volleyball schedule for Texas A&M-Kingsville begins with two road matches this weekend. First up is a 7 p.m. match in Wichita Falls, Texas against Midwestern State in D.L. Ligon Coliseum Friday night. The Javelinas then travel to Lawton, Oklahoma for a 2 p.m. matchup in Aggie Gym with Cameron.
 
Going into the two contests, the Blue and Gold are 14-9 overall, 4-4 in conference play and have won seven of their last 10 matches. The Aggies are 13-5, 4-5 LSC and have lost their last five contests. Sitting in ninth place in the league standings at 0-9 are the Mustangs, who are 5-18 on the season.
 
Scouting Texas A&M-Kingsville
The trio of Ashley Bukowski, Krystal Faison and Valarie Moehrig lead TAMUK offensively. Faison has a recorded a team best 267 kills, followed by 264 from Moehrig and 255 courtesy of Bukowski. Moehrig ranks sixth in the LSC with 3.14 k/s while Faison (3.10) and Bukowski (3.00) are seventh and eighth, respectively.
 
Registering 875 assists, the fifth most in the nation, for an average of 10.17 a set is Casey Klobedans. She has added 111 kills with a .310 attack percentage and 48 blocks.
 
Freshman Haley Hutchinson paces the Javelinas with 81 blocks and 20 solo rejections. Second on the team with 53 blocked attacks is fellow classmate Madison Brabham.
 
Brett Zaccardo enters the matches second in the LSC with 426 digs and 4.95 d/s. Also preventing a multitude of kills is Faison at 3.71 d/s. Adding over two digs a set is Bukowski (2.46) and Klobedans (2.28).
 
Scouting Midwestern State
Meghan Bettis paces MSU with 2.53 k/s while Hunter Porter has a team-high 199 kills. Kiley Beaver goes into the contest hitting .233, best on the squad, and 172 kills. Also with triple-digit kills is Addison Semer with 163. Hayden Blair paces the Mustangs with 633 assists and 7.54 a/s.
 
Defensively, Beaver sports a team-high 62 blocks. Semer is close behind with 61 rejections and leads the team with 11 solo blocks. Matti Dix enters with 381 digs for an average of 4.38 a set.
 
TAMUK increased their lead in the series to 17-11 after taking the first meeting in four sets back in September. The Javelinas have won the last three contests against the MSU. When playing in Wichita Falls, the Blue and Gold are 4-6.
 
Scouting Cameron
Leading the Aggies with 218 total kills and 3.16 k/s is Kat Evans. Jenna Gillean comes in with a team .279 attack percentage and Kayla Allen is second at .255 percent. Along with Allen (2.10) and Gillean (2.58), Jordan Williams is averaging 2.03 k/s. Setter Tori Lukenbill puts up 8.76 a/s and has totaled 578 assists on the season.
 
Gillean comes in with a team-high 57 blocks and 11 solo rejections. Allen is second with 48 blocked attacks. Pacing the squad with 261 digs is Cristina Viera while Ciandra Seabourn's average of 4.10 digs a set is the best on the roster. Also getting over three digs per set is Evans at 3.22.
 
The Aggies have a 22-10 lead in the all-time series, having won the past three contests. Before then, the Javelinas were winners in six of the previous eight meetings. TAMUK is 2-8 all-time when playing in Lawton, Okla.
 
W Over Lady Buffs
For the first time since 2004, the Javelinas defeated West Texas A&M with a 3-1 victory in Canyon. The win was just the eighth ever against the Lady Buffs. Four of the Blue and Gold's wins have come on the road while three have been in Kingsville and one at a neutral site.
 
Assists Chase
Klobedans goes into this weekend with 2,046 career assists. Her total places her sixth in school history. Against St. Edward's, she surpassed Sarah Fountain (2011-14). Next on the list is Kirby Krueger (2006-09) with 2,210 assists.
 
At the end of her freshman campaign, Klobedans sat 10th with 1,171 assists. The program leader is Natalie Walther (2001-04) with 3,051.
 
Career Digs
Zaccardo cracked the Javelinas' top 10 career list in digs and currently has 981. The sophomore is nine shy of tying Nikki Dixon (1999-02) for ninth. Kim Martinez (1996-99) holds the TAMUK career record with 2,009.
 
Season Digs
Heading into this weekend's matches, Zaccardo has been credited with 426 digs this year. With 17 more she will tie for 10th on the program's season list with Kalinda Graves (2012) and Natalie Walther (2003). Zaccardo will also have her name in the top 10 for the second time after totaling 555 digs in 2014.
 
Double-Doubles
Halfway thru the LSC slate, the Javelinas have totaled 32 double-doubles between four players. Faison leads the team with 13, followed by 10 courtesy of Klobedans and seven from Bukowski. Adding two double-doubles is Moehrig that came in back-to-back matches at home against Angelo State and Tarleton State.
 
Moehrig LSC Offensive POW
Moehrig earned the Lone Star Conference's Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 6. She helped lead the Javelinas to an upset of a ranked Angelo State squad with 18 kills and 13 digs, recording her first career double-double. She followed with her second straight double-double of 13 kills and 12 digs against Tarleton State.
 
Upset of #24 Rambelles
October 2, 2015 will be a date to remember in the history of the Javelina volleyball program. The Blue and Gold pulled off an incredible upset of then 24th-ranked Angelo State in four sets in the SPEC. The victory was the first over the Rambelles since 2008 and possible the first against a ranked opponent in school history.
 
LSC Player of the Week for Zaccardo
After her strong performance in the Emerald Beach Hotel Javelina Volleyball Invitational, Zaccardo was named the Lone Star Conference's Defensive Player of the Week. She totaled 75 digs for a 5.77 d/s mark. In the final match against Lubbock Christian, Zaccardo set a new program record with 29 digs in a three-set contest.
 
All-Time Winningest TAMUK Coach
With the Javelinas sweep of St. Mary's in their first match of the Emerald Beach Hotel Javelina Volleyball Invitational, head coach Tanya Allen became the winningest coach in program history. She earned her 69th victory since coming to Kingsville. Her win total surpassed Jane Kieschnick (2000-06) mark of 68 wins.
