Javelinas looking to snap nine-game road skid


 
KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team (0-15, 0-5 LSC) are back on the road this Wednesday when they travel to Lawton, Oklahoma to take on Cameron (7-7, 4-1 LSC). Tip is set for 5:30 p.m. in Aggie Gym with the Lone Star Conference leaders.
 
After split the season series last year, the Javelinas and Aggies remained tied 17-17 all-time against each other. The Blue and Gold has dropped two straight on the road with their last win coming on Jan. 31, 2013.
 
Scoring in double-figures in seven of the last eight games, Micah Weaver continues to lead TAMUK with 11.8 ppg. She has added 4.5 rpg, 1.9 apg and 1.1 spg.
 
Breaking out of her season-long shooting slump last week was Ashley Viera. In two contests, she made 7-of-17 (41.2 percent) from the field, including 4-for-8 on three-pointers, while averaging 11.5 ppg.
 
Lauren Jay is grabbing a team-high 5.9 rpg. Pacing the squad in assists is Tessa Ramirez with 2.3 assists a contest.
 
CU, winners of three straight, are led by Jazzmine Robinson in points (18.5), rebounds (8.4), assists (3.3), steals (1.4) and field goal percentage (46.1).
 
The Aggies are deadly from long-distance having made a LSC-high 113 treys and nail 8.1 per game. Brandi Leal has made a conference best 48 three-pointers (3.4 made a game, fifth in Division II) on her way to averaging 12.4 ppg. Jade Herl is second in the LSC with 39 threes. She is also scoring 10.1 ppg and paces the team with a 40.6 three-pointer shooting percentage.
 
As a team, CU is scoring 70.7 ppg and make 41.8 percent of their shots, 39.0 percent from downtown (seventh best in the nation) but convert only 66.3 percent at the free throw line. They sport a 4-2 record this season in games decided by less than 10 points
