KINGSVILLE, Texas – A tough task awaits the Texas A&M-Kingsville women's basketball team (0-14, 0-4 LSC) Saturday afternoon when they welcome nationally ranked West Texas A&M (11-2, 2-1 LSC) to Gil H. Steinke Physical Education Center-Kingsville Hampton Inn Court at 2 p.m., which is sponsored by EmbroidMe. The Lady Buffs are ranked 11 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and 14 in the DII Media Poll Sponsored by D2SIDA.
WT has dominated the all-time series with the Javelinas 52-8. The Lady Buffs have won 10 straight and 13 consecutive games in Kingsville. TAMUK's last victory in the series came on Feburary 21, 2009 in Canyon, Texas while their last win at home was on March 1, 2003.
Having reached double-figures in points nine times this season,
Micah Weaver leads the Blue and Gold with an 11.6 ppg average. She adds 4.6 rpg, 1.6 apg and 1.0 spg as well.
Tessa Ramirez is dishing out 2.3 apg and
Ashley Viera is producing 1.9 assists a game.
Lauren Jay paces the squad with 5.9 rpg while recording a block in five straight games and a steal in four straight. Appearing in 13 games off the bench,
Ope Ibrahim is grabbing five boards a contest.
On the year, TAMUK is scoring 53.4 ppg while making 34.6 percent from the field and 25.0 percent of their three-pointers. They are grabbing 38.5 rpg and producing 6.4 spg and 3.5 bpg.
Leading the way for the Lady Buffs is Chontiquah White with 17.5 ppg and 9.0 rpg, both ranking second in the Lone Star Conference. Sasha Watson adds 13.2 ppg while making a team best 57.9 percent of her field goal attempts and dishing out 3.5 apg. She is also 10th in the nation with 3.3 spg.
Danielle Logan and Madison McLain are threat from three-point range, having made 22 and 21 treys respectively.
WT is scoring 77.5 ppg, 13.8 more than their opponents. Their 47.9 field goal percentage is the fourth highest in the nation but they only convert 33.3 percent of their threes and 66.8 percent at the charity stripe. The Lady Buffs grab 38.4 rpg, dish out a conference best 16.8 apg and are credited with 11.8 spg.
