GAME THREE: @JavelinaFB Invades Jerry’s World to Face Lions

Battle for the Chennault Cup is set to kickoff at 10:03 a.m. CT and will be televised on KDF-TV, New Wave Communications, Dish Network, Grande Communications and Time Warner Cable

ARLINGTON, Texas (Football) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (1-1) begins its quest for a 35th conference championship on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 10:03 a.m. when the Javelinas take on Texas A&M University-Commerce (1-1) inside AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
 
The game kicks off the 2014 Lone Star Conference Football Festival and will be televised live on KDF-TV, Dish Network, Grande Communications, New Wave Communications and Time Warner Cable.
 
In one of the longest rivalries in all of NCAA Division II, the Javelinas hold the all-time series edge, 37-23-1. The contest will be the 18th installment of the battle for the Chennault Cup, and although TAMUC has earned back-to-back victories, Texas A&M-Kingsville is 13-4 in Chennault Cup games.
 
The Javelinas are coming off a 17-14 win over Colorado Mesa University (1-1) and hold the edge all-time against the Lions, 37-23-1. LAST TIME OUT
Trey Mitchell jump-started Texas A&M University-Kingsville (1-1) to a 7-3 lead with a 67-yard run on the Javelinas' opening drive and the defense finished with 97 total tackles as Kingsville defeated Colorado Mesa University (1-1), 17-14, on Saturday evening at Javelina Stadium.
 
The defense, highlighted by seniors Henry Greathouse and Trevor Pesek's combined 21 tackles, was locked in all evening, registering six forced fumbles and four quarterback hits. The Javelinas added five sacks for 35 yards and limited the fast paced offense of the Mavericks to 6-of-17 on third-down conversions and 0-of-4 on fourth-down opportunities.
 
WELCOME TO JERRY'S WORLD
Texas A&M-Kingsville will battle Texas A&M University-Commerce in the annual Chennault Cup. The Javelinas lead the all-time series, 37-23-1, and hold an edge in the battle for the cup, 13-4, but the Lions have earned victories in the previous two meetings.
 
Away from the friendly confines of Javelina Stadium, TAMUK was 1-4 last season. Saturday will be the first away/neutral site game for the Javelinas this season.
 
RUN TREY RUN!
Trey Mitchell gave the Javelinas the offensive punch it was looking for as the junior quarterback rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns in Kingsville's 17-14 victory over Colorado Mesa on Sept. 13. The win snapped TAMUK's nine-game losing streak and marked the first time that a player rushed for two touchdowns in a game since Sept. 21, 2013.
 
DEFENSE STANDS TALL IN DOMINATING FASHION
Texas A&M-Kingsville's defense finished with 97 total tackles in Saturday's victory over the Mavericks. Highlighted by seniors Henry Greathouse and Trevor Pesek's combined 21 tackles, the defense forced six fumbles and registered four quarterback hits. The Javelinas added five sacks for 35 yards and limited the fast paced offense of the Mavericks to 6-of-17 on third-down conversions and 0-of-4 on fourth-down opportunities.

With the newest NCAA Division II rankings released earlier this week, the Javelinas are ranked second in the nation in kickoff returns with 42.0 yards/return.
 
TAMING THE LIONS? STOP THE PASS
The Javelinas have a tough task at hand this weekend as the Lions lead the country in passing offense, averaging 442.5 yards in the air. In its season opening victory over East Texas Baptist, A&M-Commerce's quarterback Tyrik Rollison threw for 562 yards and six touchdowns.
