Javelinas Drop Two To Aggies In Series Opener

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team fell 4-1 and 5-0 in a doubleheader to Cameron on Friday night as the teams opened their 4-game Lone Star Conference series at Hubert Field.

In the opening game, the Aggies (21-11, 7-7) scored single runs in the second and third innings to get on the board.

In the second, CU used back-to-back doubles to score a run. Paige Daino doubled to left and then scored on a double by Emily Nix down the line in left.

In the third, Kingsville (8-26, 2-13) starter Carlie Clark walked the first two hitters of the inning. With one away, Misty Dooley and Macy McKay each swiped a base with Dooley scoring on a sacrifice by Breezy McComas.
Cameron added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the sixth.

The Javelinas plated an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh. With two away Myrissa Sanchez doubled and scored when Carlie Allerheiligen dropped a pop fly with two outs.

Clark (4-12) suffered the loss allowing 4 runs on 9 hits. She had two strikeouts and a pair of walks.

Kingsville could not figure out Samantha Betts who limited Kingsville to two hits, walked one and fanned five.

In game two, Cameron put two runs on the board in the top of the first and that was enough for starter Kelsey Watson.

With one away, McKay reached on an error and scored on a double by Tara Martini off Lauren Denney. McComas drove in Martin with a double for a 2-0 lead.

After allowing a run in the third, the Aggies tacked on two in the top of the seventh.

Watson (10-5), who hit and walked two batters, did not allow a runner past first base in tossing a no-hitter. She finished with four strikeouts.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow in a second doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
