Javelinas Lose Heartbreaker In OT To Greyhounds

Box Score PORTALES, N.M. – Texas A&M-Kingsville shot 61.9% in the first half Wednesday night building an 11-point halftime lead, but could not find the range in the second half and overtime falling 68-62 to Eastern New Mexico in Portales.

The Javelinas drop to 7-13 on the season and 2-6 in the Lone Star Conference with the loss, while Eastern moves to 12-8 overall and 5-3 in the LSC. The Greyhounds win the season series by a combined 10 points having won 82-78 in Kingsville.

Jordan Jahr had 12 of his game-high 20 points in the first half as Kingsville closed out the first half with a 21-9 run. The Javelinas led 36-25 at the intermission.

The Hoggies managed just 26 points the remainder of the game. They had 21 points in the second half and five in overtime as they were a combined 10-of-39 in the final 25 minutes.

Despite struggling from the floor Kingsville led by five 53-48 following a Rashad Basey jumper with 4:53 left in the game.
As Kingsville went 1-of-5 the remainder of regulation, Greyhounds went on a 9-2 run. They took their first lead of the half at 55-53 on a trey by Jordan Romero and extended it to 56-53 with a free throw.

Jordan Jahr's jumper with 31 seconds left pulled the Javelinas back to within a point 56-55. After Phil Henry hit 1-of-2 from the charity stripe with 18 seconds left, Kingsville knotted the game at 57 on a pair of Ronald Scott free throws.
ENMU scored the first six points of overtime before Jahr drained a trey with a minute left make it 63-60.

The hosts sealed the win with four straight points on a Rodney Blackmon drive and a pair of Devone Davis foul shots with 27 seconds left that made the score 67-60.

Scott cut the deficit to five, 67-62, with 19 seconds left but would not score again. Kingsville finished the OT period 2-of-12 from the field.

Aside from Jahr's 20, Scott had 14 points for Kingsville with seven rebounds. Daymon Warren led Kingsville with nine boards and Jahr had four blocks.

ENMU had four players in double digits led by Henry with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Cornelius Cammock added 12 points, while Rodney Blackmon and Davis each had 10. The hosts outscored Kingsville 19-4 on turnovers.

The Hoggies return home on Saturday to face West Texas A&M at 3 p.m. on Kingsville Hampton Inn Court. The game will be sponsored by Big House Restaurants.
