Javelinas Drop Doubleheader To Texas Woman’s

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DENTON, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team dropped its first two games in a three game series to #4 Texas Woman's, 9-2 and 11-0 on Friday in the Lone Star Conference opener for both teams.

The Javelinas (5-13, 0-2) came out ready to play in the first game scoring two runs in the top of the second to take a 2-1 lead. Senior Taylor McGill batted the runs in when she homered to left center driving in Adela Gomez who reached on base with a double. It was McGill's second home run of the season.
After tying the game in bottom of the third, the Pioneers (16-3, 2-0) regained the lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. They seized control in the sixth inning with five runs for a 9-2 lead.
Carlie Clark (1-6) suffered the loss for the Javelinas allowing four runs with three earned on eight hits in 4-2/3 innings of work. Ariel Kellogg, who suffered the game two loss, pitched the final 1-1/3 innings allowing five runs on six hits.
Brandie Lander earned the win with a complete game performance to move to 12-0. She had 10 strikeouts and limited the Javelinas to three hits. Offensively, Bailey Vrazel had a game-high three hits with three runs scored while Sarah Wittenburg and Samantha Algeria each drove in two runs.

The second game got off to rather rough start in the bottom of the first as Kendra Sancet homered to center field to bring them both in and finished with four RBI. The game ended in the bottom of the fourth after Katy Stephens pushed the hosts lead to 11-0 with a grand slam to left field in the bottom of the fourth.
The Pioneers combined for 14 hits.
Katie Hines (3-3) earned the win in the second game tossing a 1-hit shutout.

The Javelinas have one more game against the Pioneers on Saturday at noon.
