Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville men's basketball team dropped an 83-60 decision to Midwestern State Saturday in Lone Star Conference action at Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.
The Javelinas (8-17, 3-10) had three players finish in double figures as
Adonis Bailey led the way with 16 points including a monster dunk late in the contest.
Ronald Scott added 11 points and
Irvin Hollinger 10.
Midwestern State (19-6, 11-2), however, had two players with 20-plus points as Xavier Blackburn had a game-high 24 and Eddie D'Haiti totaled 21. It was the eighth straight victory for the Mustangs.
The teams stayed within a basket or two of each other for much of the first half.
After the visitors jumped out to an 8-2 lead 2-1/2 minutes into the game on a basket by D'Haiti, the Javelinas answered with a 13-6 run. Scott gave Kingsville its first lead with a jumper at the 15-14 mark of the opening half.
MSU regained the lead and took a 10-point advantage on a DeJuan Plummer jumper.
Bailey hit back-to-back treys with less than two minutes remaining in the half to pull Kingsville back to within four. The Hoggies trailed by six at halftime, 40-34.
The Mustangs would seize control early in the second period opening with four straight threes for an 18-point advantage.
The Javelinas, who played their third consecutive game without
Rashad Basey, could not get closer than 14 points the remainder of the way.
The Javelinas close out their regular season Saturday at 3 p.m. by hosting Angelo State on Senior Day. They then head to Allen for the LSC Championship as all eight men's teams qualify.
