Javelina Men To Battle Lions At Home, Take On TSU ON CSN Houston

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville men's basketball team hosts Texas A&M-Commerce at 8 p.m. Thursday evening on Kingsville Hampton Inn Court following the women's contest before hitting the road on Saturday for a televised battle with fourth-ranked Tarleton State in Stephenville on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Thursday's doubleheader with the Javelina women, who play at 6 p.m. will celebrate Black History Month and is sponsored by Kleberg Bank and New York Life Insurance and local agents R.J. Loera and Phil Esquivel Jr.

Saturday's game at Tarleton will be televised by CSN Houston and streamed live at www.csnhouston.com/page/live.

The Javelinas enter the two games with a 7-14 record on the season and 2-7 record in the Lone Star Conference. Kingsville fell by two at Commerce (14-7, 3-6) 68-66 in the LSC opener for both teams. Tarleton downed Kingsville 103-84 in January. The Texans currently lead the LSC at 8-1 and are 19-1 overall.

Rashad Basey, who had 20 points off the bench on Saturday, leads the Javelinas with 17.2 points a game, Jordan Jahr is second with 11.2 points an outing. Ronald Scott, who leads the team with 83 assists. Jahr leads the team in rebounding with 5.7 rebounds and blocks with 20.

Three Lions are averaging double digits. LaDon Carnegie is tops at 14.8 points a game and is second with 5.9 rebounds, while Devondrick Walker is second with 12.7 points. Tyrie Wooten is third with 12.0 points a game for Commerce which is averaging 81.7 points per contest. Christian Macauley is first in the conference in blocks with 60 in 21 games.

Tarleton, which is among the national leaders in scoring margin, has two players scoring over 15 points a game. Chuck Guy leads the team with 16.2 points a contest and De'Andre Upchurch is scoring 15.1. Tashawn Mabry is adding 11.7 a contest. Guy leads the LSC with 5.9 assists and is sixth in the nation with 3.44 assists. As a team, TSU is in the top three of every category in the LSC with the exception of rebounding.
