Week 2: Travel Hogs Ready for Three Games in Three States

Javelinas look for first win under new regime of head coach Wade Scott and assistant Brittany Mason

KINGSVILLE, Texas (Women's Basketball) – Texas A&M University-Kingsville (0-2) kicks off a three-game in six-day stretch inside the friendly confines of the Gil H. Steinke Physical Education Center-Kingsville Hampton Inn Court with an upset in mind as it welcomes No. 25 St. Mary's University (2-2) on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 6 p.m.

The Rattlers received 11 votes in the USA Today Coaches Top 25 Poll but are coming off back-to-back losses to Lone Star Conference members Texas Woman's University (Nov. 21) and Midwestern State University (Nov. 22). In the inaugural D2SIDA Top 25, St. Mary's rounded out the list and ranked 25th-nationally after its 2-0 start.

Despite the two losses to Texas A&M International University (3-0), the Javelinas are 254-177 all-time inside the SPEC and 16-6 when hosting St. Mary's. TAMUK holds the all-time edge, 23-to-18, but the Rattlers ride a three-game winning streak against the Hogs after squeaking past Kingsville, 65-62, on Nov. 16, 2013.

Following Tuesday's slate, the Javelinas hit the road for four consecutive contests, beginning with nonconference bouts at Henderson State University (1-3) on Friday, Nov. 28 at 2 p.m. and undefeated Southeastern Oklahoma State University (5-0) on Sunday, Nov. 30 at 1 p.m.

Texas A&M-Kingsville's matchup against the Reddies is the first in 21 years as the Hogs defeated Henderson State in their lone matchup, 66-63, on Dec. 3, 1993. Southeastern Oklahoma State has scored over 70 points in three consecutive games en route to a 2-0 mark in Great American Conference play. SOSU downed HSU, 88-72, on Nov. 20.

Last Time Out
Tessa Ramirez poured in 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting in her first start as a Javelina, but Texas A&M International (3-0) defeated TAMUK, 62-47, on Saturday afternoon.

Kyra Bauer finished 4-of-9 from the field and Ramirez went a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range. Lauren Jay and Micah Weaver each pulled down seven rebounds and Ope Ibrahim recorded a team-high eight boards.

The Blue and Gold jumped out to a 6-0 lead and held the Dustdevils scoreless through the first four minutes of the game. However, TAMIU overtook the Javelinas with a 14-5 run of its own, limiting the Hogs to zero field goals until the 8:28 mark in the first half. At halftime, TAMUK trailed 30-19.

Despite shooting just 28 percent from the floor, the Javelinas cut their deficit to single digits in the second half before the Dustdevils closed the gap and ended the afternoon with a 62-47 victory on Saturday.
