Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas – With dominating performances in games two and four and 32 combined kills by the duo of
Dedra Brown and
Kelsey Washington, the Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team avenged an earlier loss to Texas A&M International with a 3-1 (25-23, 25-9, 22-25, and 25-7) victory Tuesday night on Kleberg Bank Pack the House Night.
With the win, the Javelinas move to 7-6 on the season and drop International to 1-11. The Javelinas remain at home for a pair of matches this weekend. Tarleton State visits Kingsville Hampton Inn Court on Friday at 7 p.m. Nationally-ranked Angelo State comes to town for a 1 p.m. meeting on Saturday.
In the first set, Kingsville overcame an early 9-4 deficit tying the game at 10 on a
Kayla McGlathery kill. The Javelinas pushed its lead to as many as three 16-13 but could not shake the visitors. Washington and Brown each had four kills in the set, while
Kalani Giddens and
Stephanie Johns each three.
The Javelinas made short work of the Dustdevils in both the second and fourth sets. In the even numbered sets, Kingsville was on fire. They hit .391 in the second set and .500 in the final set with just one error in 30 attempts.
Kingsville still hit .367 in losing the third set, but struggled with its serve receive as TAMUI had five aces in the set.
The Javelinas finished the match with a season-best .371 hitting percentage. Aside from Brown's 17 kills and Washington's 15, Giddens and Johns each had nine kills. Washington posted her team-leading fourth double-double of the season 12 digs. She also had four aces.
Libero
Brittany Gutierrez led the way in digs and aces. She 19 balls and recorded six aces as the Hoggies compiled a season-high 11 aces in the match.
Sarah Fountain finished with 44 assists missing the 3-set match record by just two.
